Click the FOLLOW button as I'll be posting a minimum of two chapters a week, maybe more. I'm eager for your feedback, and will be making changes in response to comments, ratings, and reviews as I go.
An aging spellcaster, last of his order, searches a desert wasteland governed by a magic system in which the fewer people who know a spell, the more powerful the spell is.
The Mage’s order has been wiped out by The Motorized, steam-powered, magical weapon users—and now Mage must find a way to pass on his wealth of knowledge, defeat The Motorized, and save a dying world.
Imagine Gandalf from The Hobbit, in the world of Mad Max.
Posting Schedule: I'm planning to edit and post roughly two chapters a week here on RR.
What you can expect:
—Mage is a world of competing magic systems, featuring dueling sorcerers, and persecuted mages
—This book is my way of writing toward classic fantasy mixed with Mad-Max style steampunk.
—Prison Breaks, Rebellion
—First person, single character (aging male, magician) perspective
—No harem, VR, or time travel
This is the story of a spellcaster from an ancient order of persecuted mages, now nearly extinct, completely alone in a world torn apart by intense drought and decades of war.
The magic system that forms the backdrop of Mage, and the spine of the story arc, is centered around the concept of scarcity. Mages of The Way of the Mark use matter to perform their spells: The rarer the matter, the more powerful the spell. This is known as “The Scale of Rarity.” In addition, the fewer mages who know a particular spell, the more powerful it will be, which sets up natural rivalries. This is known as “The Law of Commonality.”
The last mage must pass along a lifetime’s worth of knowledge from an ancient tradition to anyone with the spark: the rare ability to learn the ancient magic of The Way.
With his entire order decimated, he now he believes he may be the last (and therefore most powerful) true mage alive. He faces a host of enemies in “the Motorized,” an army of steam-powered weapon-wielding thugs with secrets of their own. The Motorized wiped out mages of The Way over decades and rule what is left of a dying desert continent.
Mage begins when the last spellcaster enters Vale, the capital city of the Motorized, for the very first time.
