No unearned powerups, no perfectly logical protagonist, or one that is perfectly motivated. Expect a initial extrinsically motivated protagonist who slowly finds his place in the world by hook or by crook. And by doing so uncovers the secrets of the world and uncovers himself while he is at it. Also expect some POV shifts at the beginning as the MC not knowing the language predictably makes communication difficult.
