Zelda Valentine was once an Adjudicator for the Grand Coven of Sorcery, a governing body that sets and enforces laws for witches and wizards across the globe from under the noses of normal people. She was among those who would find and apprehend magicians who had broken the laws set forth by the Coven. However, after an assignment went bad, Zelda herself broke one of the Coven's strictest laws, and has been branded a dark witch.  She has spent the last five years as an investigative journalist for a newspaper in the southeastern US, and it's been smooth sailing. Until now. When a young girl is murdered in the forests around her new hometown, Zelda takes it upon herself to find the killer and put a stop to them, but she may have bitten off more than she could chew for this story, as she finds a figure from her past right smack dab in the middle of it all.
