In a moment of distress and elation, Sylas took the opportunity of transferring to a prestigious, far-- faraway university with the desire of fulfilling his potential and starting anew... and probably minimizing any socializing between him and anybody else. But after Luca, a girl he would say he barely knew, failed one of her subjects on purpose to be tutored by him, he was shocked; left utterly stumped at what could possibly be her motivations. And she did so spectacularly at that. His last goal suddenly felt a little less probable. And maybe, that's a good thing?
