In their studies, Danny and Taylor learn about a forbidden format of energy known as Dark Magic, which is said to specifically have lethal attributes. Jane assures them that this dark magic is not so easily accessible, and that any mages who ever try it will be hunted down by the elite Leray Agency. Based on concerning recent activities to the criminal underworld, believing that everything is okay is getting much harder. Given Jane's new injury caused by unidentified and scary magic, it becomes clear that magic is not as safe as the others led them to believe. Maybe Near was right; maybe nothing good will ever come out of this Leray magic business. One particular question now remains on the minds of many: Can Leray magic be used to kill?
