The Shades and Radiants are at war once again, seeking to prove the superiority of their race, religion, and magical power. While Iravik--a young Shadic warrior--fears the war will destroy his peoples' way of life, Loena--a Radiant--wishes she could do more than heal the wounded soldiers carried back from the frontlines. Although their countries, Kir and Atash, have clashed numerous times over the centuries, this time is different. Unbeknownst to either is another with altogether different motives and mysterious powers, threatening the very nature and meaning of the war. A story about two nations of people ideologically opposed, driven mostly by their opposite magical abilities--Dark and Light magic--and the religions they follow, Iravik and Loena are steadfast in their beliefs and cultures, but despite the seemingly black and white nature of the conflict, they are challenged to see it is far more complex and nuanced than they thought. Will they learn to overcome their differences, or will they succumb to the long history of bloodshed and turmoil, false narratives and propaganda, and the pitfalls of human nature?
