Cora Von Dalen is the stepchild to one of the King’s men in the kingdom she’s grown up in, Denexas. Despite being the eldest, she is unsure if she will be the heir to her stepfather’s position and spends her time with a group that refers to themselves as the ‘castle kids’. One evening, they plot to see the outskirts of their kingdom to solve their curious mysteries, but instead stumble upon a slave kingdom that has been torturing and forcing humans to work. On that night, one escapes and is caught in their kingdom and becomes the very thing that will boost Cora to potentially becoming the heir over her brother.  As Cora gets to know this prisoner, she learns answers to things that complicate her thoughts on her ‘safe and fair’ kingdom. Eventually, she will have to choose between allowing herself to stay ignorant, or choosing to follow what is right. With learning that she may have to gear up towards a battle, Cora and the prisoner work together to grow her strength in return for answers for what he knows of the history of Denexas and the outside kingdom.  Cora must work to get those in her kingdom to listen to her and work together to prevent an upcoming fight that may destroy her home, or let those who choose ignorance stay and be destroyed.
