Synopsis
This story is not for you. Of course, I do not mean you shouldn't read it, you can, but it's not for you. Nor for me for that matter. In fact, you could argue it isn't even a story in the traditional sense. So what is the Kaino Terran Anthology then? It's a collection of writings and records from the Kainins, a group of humans who abandoned Earth and were in turned abandoned. It's a view into their history, culture, and lifestyle spanning several thousand years in the vast desolate expanse of space. This is an attempt at showing humanity, holistically, without filter or bias. To tell the story of the weak and the poor against the proud and the rich. Power and greed placed next to desperation and poverty. This is not intended to be a happy story, but it's not a sad story either. It simply is intended to be itself. So read if you wish, but remember, this story isn't meant for you.Writers Note: Hey!! So as you can probably tell already, this is not your standard novel on this platform though it shouldn't be too novel I would hope. What should a potential reader expect? These stories, despite their rather narrow inspiration, will be a lot more than just a bflick space slasher movie. That may come up on occasion but the stories will hopefully branch out to include all kinds of experiences that could be had in the distant future of space. Each chapter will act as a complete story with its own themes and genres. Political intrigue? Yeah. A scientists journal? Sure. The adventures of a corporation agent told through a company card expenditures report? You bet. There will probably be a large number of traditional narratives but this will be my realm to experiment with a whole host of possibilities in writing. That being said, my focus is quality not quantity. Each story will be important in some way. I won't have a schedule or plan, at least for now as I want this to remain an outlet, free from the stresses of deadlines. Since this will cover a broad range of stories, I've marked it as including sensitive content and graphic violence, but I will not be including any graphic, direct or indirect sexual content, nor will I include any Earth vulgarities. (Though I am considering the creation and use of futuristic slang vulgarities to still show the nature of some characters.) For violence and other sensitive content, their presence will highly depend on the story. As such I will be including a content warning in my authors forward regarding anything in that chapter. I started thinking about Kaino and fleshing out the universe after running a game of Free League's Alien RPG and thinking to myself "How would I do this? How would I tell this kind of story?" Don't get my wrong, I love the Alien movies and universe, but like Matt Colville, I tend to think "Why is like that?" and "How could I try to do it better?" Reading Dune, Ender's Game, and SCP wiki articles have also been a major inspiration in my process. I've also been a huge fan of House of Leaves for a while and had wanted to try a similar writing style but never found an idea that felt right, until now. The thing that really got things moving in my mind was reading Super Supporter chapter 178, The Elder Croak. I loved the break in style to a more bedtime story feel with the shifting perspectives to tell a single narrative. Beautifully done. That's what got me thinking about Anthologies, a story that I could tell through a huge variety of genres which brought us here now. Of course, I do not for a moment think I can make something that ends up being better than my inspirations, no chance. But that wasn't the point for me, I wanted to try and create my take. So I present you now, the Kaino Terran Anthology. Enjoy.
