Look back at me

Ah, nothing compares to the sight of dry land after months on the higher sea, the relief of the crew, the joy of reuniting with loved ones and the contentment of those who find pleasure on land is a moment like no other.

All pirates, without exception, abandon their post to enjoy the sight of the green patch of sea that soon becomes an island.

The renewed energy breathes life into the sails, propelling them closer to land, while smiles and shouts of excitement fill the air.

"Land ho, Captain!" shouts a stationary crew member from the deck.

Captain Julie, like every other pirate, is not immune to the allure of the moment. Leaning against one of the masts, half of her face obscured by the shadow of a sail, her fiery red hair tousled by the breeze, she closes her eyes and immerses herself in the laughter and singing of her crew, while the navigation captain issues orders.

It's a scene deserving of being captured on canvas.

Amidst the commotion and jubilation among the five vessels, one person is missing.

Julie retreats to her quarters, where Aiden waits for her with his head down but with a confident smile blossom when their eyes meet.

Julie ponders who this disaffected stranger is, far from the excitement of the earth's vision and veiled by an aura of darkness and melancholy reflected in his blood-red eyes.

“Come with me,” says the captain, taking a bag and filling it with coins and papers.

As the ship docks, the town erupts into a frenzy. It's not just casual passersby who glance, but everyone leaves their posts to watch the vessel anchor. Men pour out of their houses and children shout with glee, announcing the arrival of the notorious pirates.

Curiosity outweighs fear, prompting necks to stretch out in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the legendary captain renowned for her beauty, once she disembarks.

Unfortunately for them, the emerald-eyed captain, the figure wrapped in a threadbare cloak, disembarks a few kilometers from her pirate ship, in a small canoe. Accompanied by Aiden, Howarding and a few other rowers.

"No grand entrance this time, Captain, that's unlike you," jests the elderly Howarding.

"I have other plans now, old man. Perhaps I'm growing weary of fame," retorts Julie with a laugh, gazing at the approaching shore.

Upon reaching land, they part ways. Julie, accompanied by Aiden, enters a small house tucked away in a damp alley.

"Oh, Captain!" exclaims the librarian, astonished and thrilled by the girl's arrival. Before the librarian can complete their sentence, Julie seductively places a finger on his lips, urging silence.

The man carefully pushed a shelf aside and the captain proceeded to make her way down a secret door, leaving Aiden behind in the library.

In a way that place felt completely natura for Aidenl, he couldn't resist taking hold of some books.

After some time had passed, Julie glanced in Aiden's direction as she emerged from the secret door.

The boy attempted to fit Julie's small bag with a large number of books, he couldn't help but feel embarrassed when he met her gaze.

The captain couldn't contain his laughter.

"I'll take those ones too!" She exclaimed.

The librarian, who seemed acquainted with the captain, handed an invitation to Julie.

"I would love for you to meet the members of my new family, captain," he expressed.

"Ahm no longer yer captain," Julie replied, "nor do Ah care for your offspring”

However, upon taking the invitation from his hands, she looked into the librarian's eyes and said, "But I won't turn away free food, will I?"

Julie typically adorned herself with numerous jewelry, including a gold chain around her corset. However, on that late night, Aiden saw her in a simple dress that was not as extravagant as her usual attire, yet she appeared even more stunning somehow.

On the other hand, Aiden had recently visited the barber and was now donning respectable trousers, making him look quite handsome.

Upon their introduction to the man's family, they all gathered around the table. Aiden seemed clearly intimidated, while Julie handed him the cutlery.

To their surprise, Aiden ate in a manner they had never seen before, displaying impeccable posture in stark contrast to the previously timid and apprehensive version of him. Julie had no doubt that he was of noble birth.

Despite this, his eyes still reflected warmth and innocence, eagerly seeking Julie's approval to begin eating.

Until that moment, Julie had not paid any attention.

There was something strangely captivating about Aiden, from his hands to the muscles in his arms and chest, they were like an intricate work of art. His face resembled a sculpture from a sacred city, with pale skin, a defined chin, and refined reddish eyes that contrasted with his black hair.

For some reason, Julie felt a warmth creeping up her cheeks, causing her to turn her face in the opposite direction, towards the owner of the house.

She was relieved to see that one of her crew members who had decided to abandon the life of piracy was safe. It was heartwarming to witness a loving family, although it did make her feel a bit uncomfortable.

With a glass of wine in hand, Julie decided to step outside. Aiden, who had noticed, examined Julie's visibly uneasy expression before turning his gaze towards the jubilant man and his family.

"Do ya have a family," Julie questioned Aiden .

Aiden paused for a moment, his eyes hardening.

"Yes, I have a captain," he responded.

Julie couldn't help but let out a smile.

"Ye don't have me, lad. I told ya I would kill ya someday," she retorted, looking straight into his eyes.

She then inquired, "Can ya read the book?"

Aiden had no idea what the word "read" meant, but he felt as though the symbols called "letters" in the book held a deeper meaning.

Curiosity piqued, Julie attempted to reach for Aiden's books in the nearby box, but he quickly closed it, embarrassed.

"'Have ye lost yer mind? Let me see," Julie said, playfully challenging him.

Ainden gave a step back, red as a pepper.

Julie burst into laughter when she saw that they were all romance novels.

"Do ya have a thing for romances? Perhaps ye ended up here ‘cause of a lover?" she jokingly remarked, referencing the state in which Aiden was found two months ago.

"Yes," the boy replied, looking down, his face flushed with embarrassment.

Julie was taken aback. "A passionate lover. Do ya still remember her?" she asked, staring into the man's red eyes.

"Yes," Aiden affirmed. "The captain is my lover."

In surprise, Julie spat out the drink she had in her mouth.

But before any further developments, another person approached them.

"I have some exciting news. There is "someone" waiting for you at that tavern"- the newcomer revealed.

Julie's face lit up with a wide smile, clearly filled with excitement.

"In that case," she said, turning to their host, the owner of the house they were in.

"Take care of the lad, will ya?"

"Me?!" the librarian exclaimed in surprise.

"I'll Come and pick him up tomorrow," Julie instructed.

It was quite funny to observe the situation, considering that Aiden stood at about 190 centimeters tall while the librarian barely reached 160 centimeters in height.

“This way boy” said the librarian.

Aiden followed, upset, he looked at the captain as she left expecting her to look back but she didn't.
