Over a hundred years in the future, mankind has expanded its galactic reach, meeting new species and, with them, establishing a new era of civilization. Lex is a young human businessman who, on a whim, has decided to take his vacation at a relatively newly-colonized planet called Island Maroon. This short story follows him during his first day on the "New Red Planet."   Author's Note: This was a project I undertook in my senior year of high school, for a class, in its original form. Yes, I probably went way overboard what was expected for a school project. But about the story: cringey references and occasional over-explanation aside, I'm actually quite impressed by the quality of writing I was capable of then - probably better than I could muster nowadays. Of course, I will never know what it's like to read this without knowing how it felt to write it; that's the main reason I decided to make an account and publish it here. I'm definitely not going to expand on it anytime soon, though that was my vague intention when I wrote it. Please let me know what you liked, and what could be improved.
