The importance of an event is frequently known only with the passage of time, so men often fail to realize it when they are participating in something of great and lasting significance. We come upon an example of this, unfolding one night as a group of travelers are gathered around a campfire in the countryside, though precisely where and precisely when have been lost to history. These travelers are the guests of a well-known rustic inn and are sitting in a common area outside where guests come to cook their meals, relax, and enjoy one other’s company. The good reputation of this inn rests upon the promise not of luxury, but at least, a warm bed and some relief from the tedium of long journeys. A much talked about singer of poetry is rumoured to be traveling through the area and the innkeeper has hired him to provide the guests with some entertainment. His arrival however is, at the moment, delayed.
