30 - Snake Fighter

The next morning they all got up and started the next meeting. Lunetta had her sword by her side and her brown hair was neatly braided. She had spent an hour learning how to braid her hair this morning. It took so long because she kept wanting to try new things eventually being satisfied with a long tail of braided hair.

When she entered the atmosphere seemed tense and Voluk was sipping on a cup of tea looking at her with interest.

"We have done a lot since we last talked, we have gathered a few more earth and wood mages, giving us two on each side for a total of 4 mages. The scribes have made a map of our portion of the forest with the hydra's position included. If the hydra hasn't managed to free itself that is. The earth mages have improved on their spikes making them more aerodynamic and have improved their spells to not need the columns anymore

But the columns are still going to be used to propel them since it's more efficient on mana, one of them told me, and it gets a slightly higher velocity. The mana is the largest reason though, the more earth we can launch at our enemies the better, we have also moved the wood mages to create wooden tools to allow our industry to grow and thus we will be relying on the earth mages for most of our combat needs.

We are mostly prepared we just need a plan of attack but from there we can do our practiced routine of simply throwing whatever we have at the enemy, it works pretty well."

Lunetta nods at this words, "That's quite nice that I don't have to sit through the mages to get them ready." Seeing one of them wince she smiles apologetically at them. Training was more important to her than these affairs, but if they needed her expertise she would give it whatever expertise that may be.

"I have a plan, we initiate combat with me and Voluk attacking it on the front, since it remembers us it may not notice the others, they can then aim their attacks at it's vulnerable spots and kill it that way, make sure to wait for the heads to just about regenerate before removing the neck again, that's how we kill it.

"We should get ready to depart" She motions for everyone to grab their gear. Two people, the earth mages comes forward they look at each other and shrug, one of them has a backpack with a rather large cylinder up, at first she was very surprised at that mage's strength, he explained that he simply used some earth magic passively. She was a tad bit less impressed.

And they set off to the lair of the hydra that they still have no idea what it's level was due to it's screwery that it employed. Their party wasn't very large since the less people they had, the less chance there was for someone to get in the way or get hurt in some capacity. Their party consisted of: Lunetta, Voluk, Copper and the other earth mage they had gotten along.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

So they had in total three mages and a swordmaiden that slapped people with moon power. Not the most threatening set up but it would have to do.

Looking through the dense leaves of a rather conveniently placed bush, they can spot the hydra. It looked a bit listless from trying to escape, there we some cracks but all it had done was cause sand to fall down and make it's body even more trapped.

Lunetta motioned for the other earth mage to prepare a spike to be sent in a specific location, she motioned for Copper to target another location, due to them being specialized they would be more efficient than Voluk doing everything. She told Voluk to get ready to convert some of the rock the hydra is on into lava.

It wouldn't hurt it that much, but once it starts squirming she would be able to jump on it and hold down it's heads to get the mages a shot at the eyes. A blind hydra is useless no matter how many heads it has. After telling them how they should attack it she runs towards it, her sword in her right hand.

A few moonlit slashes later and the hydra was looking gnarly with wounds leaking moonlight energy, her attacks now caused that familiar echo of power to shoot through it causing the hydra immense pain. She motioned for the mages to aim at a spot she had struck in the past, it looks to be about ready to be chopped off by a simple blade.

But she wasn't going to attack there. She didn't need to alert it. With a sprint she struck one of it's legs, the wound flashed and the feeble wound broke open causing green reptilian blood to spill from the wound. The mage struck at it with a rather large spike removing the neck, and after a moment removing the regenerating neck. The hydra gave up on that endeavor.

It set it's eyes on the poor mage that had dealt it such a large blow and sent a few spikes of it's own at her. The mage rolled out of the way and the hydra clocked her across the face with it's tail. Blood flew from her mouth. She tried to hit it with another spike out of rage, it played her like a matador playing a bull, and she was slapped again.

Her being out of the fight made it slightly harder, the hydra is still stuck, but due to it's situation it has sped up some kind of process to get it out of the thick earth. It's not powerful enough to split the mountain, but getting a hydra sized beast out? It might take a while, but it's doable. It's situation meant it didn't have that time so it was trying to tenderize the earth by squirming and having attacks land on it.

It screamed as another one of it's necks were torn off by a spike from the last mage, Voluk seemed to be casting some kind of air spell or something, maybe to counter it. She gave him an odd look when she heard the words "For the glory of the duck" and "Let there never be nevermore". The wind shifted so the odd spell did something at least.

A wing blade appeared around three meters in length and ten centimeters wide, it blitzed through the air at a great speed and cut into the shoulder of the beast causing it to roar out in agony. Lunetta decided to try to end it, she rushed towards the core of the beast and slashes at it's ribs creating a deep gash, it was starting to bleed out all of it's vitality, and even it's immense constitution can't support it anymore.

It lets out a loud roar managing to finally extract itself from the split in the ground, but it was too late, it's eyes became distant, finally it's over. Lunetta looks over the hydra and had a few mixed feeling, a part of her was happy. And another part just felt empty.
