Ordinary college student Zack leaves the normal world via subway ride every Friday, entering a world of dangerous Scenarios and Dungeons that pit him against both fellow humans initiates and monsters alike. The novelty of discovering he is a Returner is quickly lost when his past self informs him that he once survived by hiding, shying away from direct confrontation with other powerful human initiates, biding his time to grow stronger until he eventually outlasted them all.  That wasn't going to happen this time around if he could help it.  Armed with the fragmented memories of his past self, Zack will rise from his place as a mere rat hiding in the shadows into the hunter himself.
