Afterword

In this chapter, I’d like to talk about a few things, and at the end of this chapter, I’ll tease the next book.

So it’s been a week since I finished my first book, and things have settled down a bit. It definitely feels empty, but unfortunately work keeps me from fully feeling the accomplishment of what I have done over almost two years. At least I can say when I'm old that I've actually written a substantial book. At least I've done that, if nothing more, and I'm very fine with that.

Some spoilers will follow, but nothing major.

I

Hiskandrios Genesis is book 1 of the “The Dark Age of Magic” series. This is the first time I’ve revealed the name of the series, but I’ve known about it for close to a year now. I think it’s fitting to reveal it here.

II

I’m rewriting the first few chapters of the book, up until the dinner party in Bessou where Jonas and Florencia finally get together. As a few commenters have said, much of those earlier chapters have little to do with the following book and are too strong a contrast. I have to agree with that. But I’m also a bit stubborn because I won’t entirely remove it, because that time jump is one of the genesis points of the entire book/series. The idea for the book/series just sprang up from nowhere, and the time jump was one of the main ideas that molded what will become Hiskandrios Genesis. The other three I've sprinkled in here and there, and a final one I decided to delete from book 1.

Whether I’ll update the published first chapters on RR with the new version, I don’t know. Maybe I’ll put them up on my Patreon. We shall see. Also, if there’s interest in the lore of the world, I might put some of it over there as free content.

III

Going forward, I have many thoughts and ideas about what will happen, but a lot of it is very messy and in no real order that would build a nice book. I need better planning and a better system to arrange the scenes and everything that happens. With book 1, I stumbled into blocks that I had to resolve before I could even continue writing, and I want to prevent that with book 2. I want to have a full plan before I start writing.

Right now, I don’t think I’ll release book 2 in the same way as book 1, because first, I’m unfortunately working full time, which takes a lot of energy and time. Hopefully, with the coming of summer and more sunlight in that little corner where I live, I get more energy for my writings. Oh, how I wish I could write full time and make some kind of income, but alas. Second, it frankly sucks to write and release with no buffer. I always feel on edge and anxious. I’ll release book 2 when I have more of it prepared and pre-written. That means more waiting up front, and less when I’m releasing chapters.

IV

And this is a big point—because this is no casual project of mine, I will try to see whether I can actually publish the book as an actual product for people to buy. Just having it out in the public for people to read for free is not enough for me, and I want to see if a pleb like myself can actually publish a book for real. I’m not at all versed with how the publishing world is and how things move there, but I’ve heard it’s no party and things are rough. I don’t have high hopes at all, but I need to actually try. Better to have tried and failed than to never try at all.

How that will go will affect how book 2 will be released. If there’s no interest at all, and no wheels are turning, I’ll probably release book 2 on Royal Road again. But that time, I’ll make full use of my Patreon and put a lot of it there first, before even touching RR.

Writing takes a lot of time, who knew, and I’d like to at least leave open the option to get a bit of coin into my pocket from all this work.

And now, without further ado, what everyone had been waiting for.

The reveal of the title of book 2:

So, that’s it from me for now. I'll reserve this chapter for all future information and news, so whenever you feel "Hey, what ever happened to that guy who wrote that book?" Well? Check here. Also, I’m lurking on RR most days, so if you comment or DM, I’ll probably read it soon enough and react to it. Don’t be afraid to comment or ask or talk or theorize on what will happen next.

Thanks for reading. Be healthy and be well.

Until next time…
