Synopsis
Twenty years after an apocalyptic demon invasion, the continent of Sungar struggles to piece itself back together. Though its people are strong, many heroes were lost in the conflict, and those that remain have become jaded and distant. In a world bereft of heroes, dark forces push their advantage, from supernatural cults to corrupt noble oligarchies, all hoping to conquer and control the weakened peoples of Sungar. All this, on top of rapid technological advancement -- this is a world where magic, alchemy, and divine powers exist alongside clockwork, firearms, science, and electricity. The world is a powderkeg, surrounded by sparks.
Heroes, thankfully, can rise up from any corner of the world, from the most unusual of circumstances. A new generation of heroes, born into a world that desperately needs them, will come together. An elderly demon-hunting swordmaster, a samurai retainer and her loyal hound, a soft-spoken rogue between honest jobs, a college drop-out necromancer, and a priestess banished from across the sea... whether by chance or by fate, they will join together, and the world will be forever changed.
This story is based on a tabletop role-playing game that I (the author) wrote and Game-Mastered for several of my friends. While this is not a LitRPG story, it will contain some character progression, turn-by-turn combat, and "player chatter" that occurred during the course of the game (though heavily edited to preserve the flow of the story).
