Synopsis
There are two rules known to all those traveling the Road of Death:
1. Never travel at night.
2. Never travel alone.
When a severely wounded boy arrives at a caravanserai, alone and after dark, it causes quite a stir between pilgrims and residents alike. Their questions go unanswered, however, as the boy has no memory of his past, or from where he came.
The boy seems stranded at the roadside inn, for no group of adventurers will take on a member with nothing to offer—no strength, skills, or abilities. How he managed to even survive this far along the road is a mystery not even the Oracle in her spiral tower can solve.
Only when another lone stranger wanders into the caravanserai that the boy's fortunes begin to shift. After a string of coincidences, the reluctant warrior finally agrees to take on the boy as a charge. It seems the two are destined to travel the Road of Death together, to one day find where it leads...
Or die trying.
