Jack is alive, barely.  He has failed. Ice lord Corvin is still alive, unscathed, in fact.  A bounty has been placed on his head by the Tarnished Raven. And a ruthless aldarian bounty hunter and his partners have been sent for his head.  The Keywark government has collapsed, setting off a chain reaction across the world.  Now he has to face the destruction he caused, the events he set in motion, and the new enemies he's made.  But now, he's actually being noticed, and he doesn't know whether that is good or bad. He meets with Bel, and is given the choice: Will he give up, return home, eventually be found and killed, or... Will he take this a sign from the universe that he is to continue?  He does not want to acknowledge that he wants to go further.
