Synopsis
Clyde joined the army after his 14th winter with dreams of honor and glory. His homeland called upon its people to drive out the invaders to the south, and as a young boy from a poor family he knew that he must answer the call. The fighting would be hard, but he would risk his life to protect the innocent, and with enough of an achievement he could even raise his status to finally give back to those who raised and cared for him.
It's been 16 cycles since he completed his training and requested to be stationed at the frontline, and Clyde is tired. The fighting was more brutal than he ever could have known. Innocents have died at his hands, and any 'achievements' Clyde had part in only served to benefit someone he'd never meet. After doing everything he could to survive the day's battle yet again, a short conversation with a dying soldier changes the course of Clyde's life forever. Thus begins a different kind of story from the theatre of war: A deserter's long journey home.
