Humanity survives, but it dances on the brink of destruction. In the year 2030, the Great Shower littered the Earth with foreign meteorites, from which the Fog arose. It corroded whatever living matter it touched, killing or mutating it beyond comprehension. Nineteen years later, Matt finds himself as one of the few inhabitants of Last Rest, a town built in between mountains tall enough to keep the Fog at bay. But even that protection is failing. Between the ever-constant threat of the Fog, attacks by mutated animals that could hardly be called anything other than monsters, and a village that executed his father, Matt fights to avoid his own prescribed death as one of Last Rest's forsaken explorers - those who venture beyond the mountains.
