Individuals tragically often die dissatisfied, they cling to life till their last breath, and are willing to do, or endure, anything for just one more second. It is when these fleeting souls find themselves lingering in Limbo that they soon after find themselves greeted by a messenger in black, carrying an offer they cannot refuse. They are told they can either let their soul continually erode until it diffuses into someplace else, or accept the deal, and regain a semblance of their life, with the opportunity to, later on, grasp a revival in full. Thus these individuals cross the threshold into the grim reality of the Tartarus Trials: a mysterious game where participants attempt to survive monsters, quests, and conflicts they once thought myth.
