Synopsis
To Emile Bosco, home is the tiny, cluttered two room hovel he shares with his parents. It is here at a remote homeless encampment that he was born when both his mother Alicia Fiore and father Giovanni Bosco were just teenagers.
The little family struggles for everything from their tattered clothes to the scraps of food Giovanni scavenges for in the city for them to eat. At night, they sleep curled up on pallets on the floor with only their shabby blankets and the hovel's makeshift stoves to stay warm. Emile has never even been to school.
Despite it all, he isn't an unhappy lad by any means. He has his mother, father and four best friends to thank for that. Then one day, when Emile is twenty-one, he is hired by a wealthy couple, Hamilton and Aviva Dogwood to do odd jobs.
Aviva is kind, understanding, non-judgmental of Emile's poverty and just wants to help him. Her husband, unfortunately is just the opposite. All he sees when he looks at Emile is a dirty, illiterate hired hand.
The most positive thing about working for the Dogwoods is their beautiful daughter Kiera. Like her mother, she too sees beyond Emile's background.
The two quickly become friends and soon, Kiera is even teaching him to read and write. Before long, the penniless young man and the wealthy, misunderstood young woman are deeply in love. Then, after sneaking around for quite a while, Kiera discovers she's pregnant.
When Hamilton finds out, he is furious and demands that she leave. Frightened and feeling she has nowhere else she can go, Kiera makes her way to the Bosco family's hovel.
Emile, Giovanni and Alicia promise to stay by her side...but can they handle more hungry mouths? Most importantly, what does the future truly hold for Kiera, Emile and their child?
