15-year-old Emile was just hours old when he was found abandoned as a baby at a homeless encampment near Chicago, Illinois. In fact, it was a man named Mig who found him outside of the tiny hovel where he lived. With the help of his close friends Bennett and Tatiana, Mig decides to raise Emile as his son. It is in this way that a non-traditional, but loving family comes to be.       Then one day, Mig begins to feel under the weather and eventually becomes very, very sick. Though everyone tries their best to be strong and care for him, they're all very worried. Especially Emile who, deep down, is terrified as Mig's illness continues to worsen.        When Mig can no longer go into the city to try and support himself and Emile, the frightened boy must venture into the city to find work. He knows it's the only way he and his family will survive.      Soon after this, Emile meets a kind elderly woman who gives him a job at her bakery. Sadly, Mig eventually dies in his sleep, leaving Emile heartbroken and with a future more uncertain than ever.     This is the story of how Emile, a poor, homeless teenager goes onto find love, learns to read and write, and slowly makes the journey towards becoming a happy, successful young man.
