Synopsis
In a world where darkness bleeds into the light, Embers of Humanity explores the horrifying legacy of the ESMs (Elk-Skulled Mimics)—creatures born of human sin, yet strangely clinging to the embers of their lost humanity. These ancient monsters are both tragic and terrifying, haunting the wilderness in search of victims to fuel their cursed existence.
The story follows various accounts of people from different walks of life throughout history, including a U.S. forest ranger, a South American priest, a band of California Gold Rush pioneers, and modern-day families on vacation.
At the heart of the story is Bruce, a young man whose life is marked by loss and sacrifice. After an ESM claims his father, he becomes a lone hunter, dedicated to destroying these creatures and unraveling their mysteries. His journey involves heartbreak and self-discovery as he grapples with his own sense of purpose and the dark legacy of the ESMs. Following a moment of unusual consequence, his path crosses with Sophia, a promising young woman whose light tempers his darkness, and whose strengths balance his weaknesses.
Project Emberlight is a secret organization dedicated to eliminating the threat of ESMs. They begin to unravel the mystery behind these ancient beings, realizing that salvation lies not only in the physical destruction of the monsters, but in uncovering the painful remnants of their humanity—echoes that are both tragic and redemptive. With every monster they confront, with every stain of inevitable corruption within their organization, each story unfolds a lesson on sacrifice, redemption, and the eternal struggle for grace.
Embers of Humanity is a story of love, forgiveness, sacrifice, faith, redemption, and the search for grace in a world torn by tragedy. It’s not just about fighting monsters, but understanding the tragic choices that lead to their creation—and the healing that can still take place, even in the darkest corners of the soul. The fight for survival is not only external, but deeply internal, as every character struggles to reconcile their past, present, and the possibility of hope for the future.
