Chapter 11

“That sure is an interesting story, so with all the power the Royals have at their finger-tips why haven’t they just decided to rule everything in the name of making the world a better place.” Even with her little experience out in the world it seemed far too easy for the joint forces of the five Royals to just roll over everyone and everything to establish some sort of world order.

“There are multiple reasons for that.” Amuro started.

“Firstly, the five Royals apart from Emile and Mort are not constantly working together. Broen was in fact recruited with considerable force and was basically on the verge of continuing the Apocalypse trend.”

“Cassandra does not really trust anyone but herself, she has a few screws loose herself but not on the level of insanity of Broen.”

“On top of that Emile, Mort and Maeve do not want to get too involved with the average person as they feel that just like how Emile decided to be hands off with how his country is run.”

While they had been talking food had been brough in by some villagers, a young boy was now talking to Angelo. Excitedly pointing at his crossed pupils.

“And Maeve the most powerful of them is the one that shows herself the least frequently, usually one for research over action.”

“The final reason is a lot more recent.” He paused for breath.

“That being?”

“The Royals have disappeared, this is not a big deal normally, but the longest they have ever been gone for has been 25 years. However now they have been gone for 50 years and there is no sign of their return.”

“There has been no action or display from any of them to show that they still exist.”

“That is why it is currently impossible to meet someone like Broen?”

“That is exactly right.”

She rested a fist on her chin in thought.

“I can only assume that there have been some changes as their disappearance has shown itself to be more long lasting than expected?”

“That is right, we believe that is why the Red Suns are unafraid to make such bold moves right now.”

“And of course, they are not the only ones various Catastrophe class Xerani with intentions that do not bode well for the world are becoming more active than they were. The only silver lining is that the Catastrophes classes that care for the average person or simply like the status quo would take action to protect their interests.”

“And we are in the middle of all this.” Sevyn said with anticipation despite the dangerous situation.

“I believe that the move the Umbra Cloaks made against the facility was a result of Marrow’s own action to clamp down on the underworld before things got too out of control. However, there is a limit to what he can without the help of a Catastrophe class right now.”

“You sure do know a lot, far more than I expected, is it due to you being a blessed of Maeve?”

“That is correct, over the years with my blessing even with my less than meagre power and insignificant age compared to Soldier classes, I am capable of learning a lot about the world. Far more than the average person would know.”

“Then another question.”

“I am all ears.” He said amusedly.

“I have heard the word mystification used by Raavar to refer to us three.”

“Ah, that.” He nodded. “I would let Raavar take over after all he should have more experience in that subject.”

“Sure thing, Mystification is something that Xerani go through if they reach around the mid level of the Artillery class.”

“It is essentially the Ehror of a person being so tied to them that it starts changing their physical body to that of mystical creatures.”

“Mystical creatures?”

“Creatures that do not exist in our world, we do not really know where they exist but it is a known fact that as Xerani reach the Artillery class and beyond, they slowly lose their human shape and form. For example, your horns and your pupils.”

“Are there any other implications apart from the physical form changing?”

“Well the mystical body parts are not exactly one of this world, Xerani already tend to ignore certain aspects of the worlds physical laws but mystified Xerani even more so.”

“And are there others like me?”

Amuro took over again.

“If you mean other Soldier classes undergoing mystification I would say yes. But when that happens it results in the person going insane and losing control of their Ehror making themselves a danger to everyone in the vicinity including themselves.”

The moment he said that some memories of the facility sprung up in her mind, the things she had done. It all made sense.

Everyone in the room sensed the change in her expression.

“Anything wrong?” Raavar asked concerned.

“No, its nothing, I believe every subject in the facility was experimented on with mystification in mind, as we all have these…mystified body parts.”

Amuro looked up in sudden realisation.

“That would make a lot of sense, all three of you have signs of mystification, yours being the most visible.”

“I also want to ask if you know what sort of creature, I have been mystified into being.”

“From what I can tell, you are part Oni right now, still in the early stages of mystification.”

“An Oni?”

“Not much I know about them except from legend, they are incredibly powerful, and I believe one of the rarest mystifications.”

“Me next.” Angelo said enthusiastically.

“I am unsu-.” Amuro began before Angelo removed his top turning around much to everyone’s surprise, well not everyone as Sevyn and Gael were perfectly calm.

He had what looked likely butterfly wings on his back except they were also as small as a butterfly’s

“A..fairy?” Amuro sounded puzzled.

“That is what I can discern right now, but we know even less about them than about Oni except..aren’t they meant to be tiny?”

“And Gael?” Angelo asked while pointing at the stoic young man.

“I don’t have anything else to show.” Gaels said, almost apologetically.

“Sorry only white hair is not enough for me to get anything concrete.”

“That is fine, thanks for answering our numerous questions.”

“No problem at all.” Amuro said closing his eyes humbly.”

“Now what is it that you want from us.” Her voice took a serious tone.

He looked shocked at first, before relaxing back into his easy smile.

“I knew it would not be that easy to get past you. Even my discernment doesn’t allow me to act too perfectly.”

“You were just being a little too eager to provide answers for no gain.”

“Could it not be just from the goodness of my heart?” He asked curiously, despite the tension in the room everyone was quite relaxed with no hostile actions being taken.

“Maybe but I have a level of discernment of my own. And it tells me that you three want something from my companions and I.”

“Then what about you, you have provided answers about your situation that could be quite damning to you, I am sure that the Red Suns are sending pursuers your way.”

“I am sure with your discernment you would be able to figure out any lies and also we both know that I am hiding some things.” Like how she was quite confident due to Akuuna’s advice being the reason they were here. She did not think that Akunna could lead them wrong with his ability, in fact she was sure it surpassed this old man’s blessing although she still was unsure what it was exactly that he had.

The man smiled widely.

“Not only strong but very smart for your age. Only three years of actual experience and far less of experience in the real world and you are able to ascertain situations like this fairly accurately. I can tell that if you continued to grow in power, you would also be a force to reckon with in a duel of wits.”

“Enough with the flattery, what do you want I don’t mind helping depending on what it is as payment for the time you have taken with us.”

He sighed.

“Well, we do have a situation coming up soon.” He paused.

“The village is in danger, in a month from now it could be completely destroyed.”

They were being transported out of the facility, apparently with their initial experimentation and training finished they would now start with the ‘true’ training. He had not been listening however, the young man was boiling with anger his interrupted fight with that usurper of a girl was playing in his head over and over. And that insufferable Akuuna, he knew things that he never shared with anyone but her. Maria sat across from him, her permanently closed eyes and blank face was somehow able to show concern only to him however who was able to interpret it. She raised a hand to him about to ask how he was, but he just gave her a lacklustre smile. She was one of the few people to understand his true worth and he always appreciated her for that. He knew he could trust her. Unlike those four, he would make Sevyn and her group pay. For the humiliation he received upon their actions and to once and for all prove himself the better over that foolish girl.
