A thousand years ago the Godstone was destroyed and a cataclysm brought an end to magic.  Now magic has returned to the world, and with it the shadow from the past. The demi-god who once tried to unite the Godstone has returned to finish the deed.  In the northern kingdom of the Engrall, teenage Kai loses his parents during a brutal attack on his village. Only the timely appearance of Tirrin saves him. Kai struggles to find his new place in the world while plagued with nightmares of the past.  In the south, gunslinger Dobrius loses his mother and learns of his destiny. He embarks on a journey with the legendary Poepa to stop the evil demi-god from obtaining the Godstone.  The teenage assassin Eriyana, carrying out the dark will of her father, embarks on a journey to integrate herself into a group of heroes with the intent of betraying them. But she is not prepared for the change they will make in her.
