Synopsis
Jake Thompson, an ordinary high school senior, finds his life turned upside down during a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. When he accidentally interrupts a ritual performed by his mysterious classmate Amira Hassan, both teens awaken latent powers connected to ancient Egyptian rulers - Jake channeling Ozymandias, and Amira embodying Cleopatra.
This awakening thrusts them into the secret world of the Immortal Clash, a hidden competition where participants channel the abilities of historical figures and mythical heroes. The game manifests as a mix of real-world danger and RPG-like elements, complete with quests, levels, and skills.
Initially at odds due to Amira's resentment over Jake's interference, the two must navigate their new reality while dealing with other champions, each representing different legendary figures from world history. As they explore their powers and uncover the true nature of the Immortal Clash, Jake and Amira form an uneasy alliance.
Set against the backdrop of New York City, the story follows Jake and Amira as they balance their normal lives with the supernatural conflict. They must complete quests, level up their abilities, and confront other champions while keeping the game hidden from the public eye.
Along the way, they encounter eight other champions, each with their own motivations and historical powers. These include figures like Oda Nobunaga, Joan of Arc, and Shaka Zulu, creating a diverse cast of characters and abilities.
As the competition intensifies, Jake and Amira uncover a deeper conspiracy behind the Immortal Clash. They must decide whether to pursue the game's ultimate prize - the power to reshape reality - or work together to confront the hidden forces manipulating the champions.
The novel explores themes of power, responsibility, and the weight of history, all while delivering action-packed battles, strategic gameplay elements, and the personal growth of its main characters. As Jake and Amira delve deeper into the world of the Immortal Clash, they question the nature of heroism, the consequences of awakening ancient powers, and what it truly means to be legendary in the modern world.
