This is a coming-of-age story and his growth will not be immediate. This MC will spend a lot of time being UNDERPOWERED. You are not supposed to like where he starts, but want to see him grow. The worldbuilding is rich, the plot development so subtle you are actually intended to miss some of the carefully-laid hints until later reveals. If you think you see this story heading in a very predictable direction with very obvious hints, don't be so sure. Wait, and I think most of the time you will be pleasantly surprised. This story rewards patience.
