Smoke and Sharp meet under extreme circumstances, on two different sides of a war. Smoke is a civilian, though not by choice, and is slowly losing everything around them. Sharp has forgotten what it feels like to stop fighting, and she is just barely holding everything together. At first, all that draws them together is some kind of curiosity - but as they learn more about each other, it begins to grow into something else.
