The "Dungeon" – a structure bigger than a mountain appears in the Canneldorth kingdom. Nobody who enters returns from the mysterious place, rumored to be built by the gods. Bazel the Beggar survives the best he can on handouts and pity, but he wants more. He wants food, clothing, shelter, and most of all: a pair of shoes! When the king rounds up all the beggars and asks them to investigate the dungeon, Bazel sees it for the ruse it is. The king really wants to clean up his streets of the rabble.
