Chapter 00 - Let the game begins!

Games, when that word comes people think of sitting before a television or computer and with their joystick or keyboards to play it.

But now, the world has changed, games are no longer affected to be played on consoles like that but instead they are supposed to be played while a player wears a helmet and lie down on their bed, Virtual Reality was made and after a few years the developers finally reached the degree they wanted, full immersion games.

The games were popular and soon more games started to appear making gamers all over the world be delighted with them, but one thing remained, the games weren’t ‘real’, they hadn’t the realism people wanted but soon it would change, and all because of a game. Dungeon King World.

DKW, as it was called, the game itself was brand new and only a few things were released, but the one thing players wanted the most was available, the five senses, though somewhat dulled to make the difference of both worlds be noticeable.

The game world featured a dungeon where the player was the King or Queen and there they could control it, making it grow and develop it as they pleased. There are many paths and races to choose, but those were left with little announcements as to let the player discover for themselves.

“Son, a package arrive! It is for you!” A man shouted as he walked back to his house with a box in his hands.

“Ohhh! It’s here!” A teen-looking young adult wearing glasses, with short dark brown hair ran quickly until he arrived before the man. “Thanks for bringing it dad!” He said as he looked at the box.

“You’re welcome… and here, you take care of this now.” The man said to his son as he passed the box to the owner’s hand. “Oh yeah, don’t forget to eat just because this thing arrived, if you don’t come down at the right time you will not be allowed to use that.” The man said to his son, which surprisingly looked like him when he was younger.

“It is okay dad, I’ll set reminders so I’ll come in time for lunch, and in time to go to school as well.” The boy said.

“Good, just don’t get holed up there all day.” His father said as he walked away, just to stop as his son started to go up the stairs. “Paul, just make sure to not waste your time there.” He said that and left.

“Geez… always the same talk…” Paul said as he rolled his eyes before he walked back to his bedroom where he put the box on the ground before closing his door.

Paul quickly opened the box and from it he took a small and big box from inside it. Opening both boxes he took a silver colored helmet from the bigger box and from the smaller box it was a small cube.

Without minding the manual Paul quickly plugged the cube on his computer and turned it on, once a red light was shown he grabbed the helmet and placed it on his own head before strapping it on his chin so it wouldn’t fall when he moved his head.

With the computer on, he quickly installed what he needed before he adjusted the helmet to his personal use.

Each helmet was programmed to save a person full scan, though it could be edited it would still be only focused in one person since it read the person’s brain waves and would not be useable for another after being set.

The measurements were done in a few minutes since it was set for the person that would use to measure himself by touching a few parts of their body so it could be saved.

Once the measurement was done Paul didn’t take the helmet off, instead ran the game that was already inside the helmet as a way to set the last few needed controls, which were the five senses control.

“Now I only have to wait until night…” He said after he took the helmet off. “The game will be released in a few more hours and I can’t wait anymore!” He said as he looked at the icon on his computer and smiled.

It was the Dungeon King World’s game icon, he had bought the game once it was open for pre-order and at the same time bought the new helmet that he would use to play the game.

Without much to do Paul decided to read some books that were waiting to be read for a long time now.

“Welcome to the Dungeon King World!” A female voice said as Paul appeared in a small room that had nothing more than a mirror. “I’m the main AI, Isis.” A teenager woman appeared at his side, she had purple hair, and strange azure eyes. She was wearing a white one piece dress.

“Hi there.” Paul said as he watched the girl. “So… I want to set my character for the game… though… why are you here?” He asked as he looked at the girl.

“As I said before, I’m the main AI of this game, you can say that I’m the goddess of the game world.” She said playfully. “And you asked for me to set your character, well, this game is different from the other VR RPG, you see, you’re not going to play as the adventurer but instead as a dungeon, so there are only a few things you can choose.” Isis said as she changed her hair into a small bun.

“Then… let me see the options for the ‘dungeon’ I can make.” Paul asked the AI.

“Okay!” The girl happily said and three blue windows appeared between them. “The things you can choose are the city you want to be ‘born near’, the dungeon type and last but not least, the type of creatures you want to make inside your dungeon!” Isis said as she gestured to the three windows. “Be warned that there are restricted creature types, if you choose a fish type your dungeon will be near a source of water. There are other types as well, but it is just the warning I had to give.” She said before she sat on the air.

Paul quickly looked at the number of choices before sighing. “Can I say what I want then you mark it for me?” He said looking at the girl.

“I can, there are a big number of choices anyway.” She said before she turned to the mirror. “Then say the race you want and the place the dungeon will be, though the city… you will have to choose one yourself, I can give you a few pointers about them.” Isis said as she placed her hands on the sides of the mirror.

“Then… a cave should be good for a dungeon location, and for the race… I want to go with wolves since they are cool.” Paul said as he looked at the mirror where the appearance of a black dog could be seen. “What is that?” He asked as he watched the dog’s image.

“That is what your Boss looks like right now, you can edit it if you want.” She said without taking her hands from the mirror. “You can say them aloud too or let me ‘see’ the fine adjustments from your head, if you want to.” Isis said as she turned the image to the side showing how big the dog was.

“Then let’s have it have a bigger muzzle, red eyes, black fur with a white underbelly that goes all the way to its tail and neck, longer ears and longer tail.” The boy said and the dog before him changed to match the image he had on his mind. “It looks perfect!” He said as he watched the full grown dog that looked like a wolf.

“So that is your choice… I can agree with you, it looks cool, so where do you want for the dungeon core to be placed? It can be placed on the head or the chest of the player.” Isis said showing a small red gem on the dog’s chest.

“That is the dungeon core? Shouldn’t it be on the wall?” Paul asked as he saw the round crystal that was on the wolf’s chest.

“It should be there, but it was made so the players could be always near the dungeon core.” Isis said taking the gem away and placing on the head of the wolf-like dog. “And that will make the player able to change the dungeon as they see fit without the need to go all the way to the core.” She explained.

“I think the head will be a good place for it to be.” Paul said as he stared at the now ‘three’ eyed dog. “Now, the place where the dungeon will appear… it needs to be near a city?” He asked as he scrolled around the only screen left.

“It can be a village too, but that would make it be seen as more dangerous, but you can choose as you see fit.” She said as her hairstyle changed to a long braid.

“Then I want it to be near a village, though it might be harder I think that at first it will be the perfect spot for a low level dungeon to appear.” He said and the girl chuckled at his choice as the screen changed to only show some villages that could house the dungeon.

“Saying that but near a village doesn’t mean it will be right next to it, you know? Dungeons are ‘dangerous’ so it will form away from the place, though not more than a day by horse or carriage.” Isis explained.

“Then let me go to a place where many dog type monsters and animals gather!” Paul said. “It should probably be near a forest too, right?” He asked before the girl could talk.

“You’re right, so these are the villages you can choose from.” She said and five options appeared before him. “Each village has its own forests and resources so you can choose any of them.” She said and once more the hairstyle changed, it was now cut short to her shoulder length.

“Then I’ll go to Spring Peak Village.” Paul said after looking at the village names.

“Then you’re going to Spring Peak Village.” She said and the mirror disappeared and only a small portal was left on its place, but it was dark and inactive. “Now, before you go, would you tell me the name of your boss character?” Isis asked as a pen and a notebook appeared on her hand. She wore glasses and a formal suit.

“All bosses need a name?” Paul asked as he looked at the girl, whose clothes had changed in a blink of an eye.

“Yes, bosses are unique monsters and they need a name. They are the leader of a group, their power is always unique and they are stronger than the main monsters they control.” Isis said as she placed her glasses back in their place with her finger.

“Then I’ll name my Boss monster “Kai”.” Paul said and a blue light shone from the portal as soon as girl finished writing the name.

“You’re free to go, and I’ll see you once you’re back to login or logout, just don’t forget, time is three times faster inside the game.” She said while waving as the boy stepped into the portal.
