After saving the lives of the mortal residents of one of the many planes in the mortal realm, he is severely injured. Unwilling to let his wife, Karma, the Great Goddess of Reincarnation, take the risk of using her own soul essence to heal him, resorting to other means. Unknown to him, however, is that the rotting of his soul is slowly warping his mind, and he finally resorts to devouring mortal souls to prolong his life. When he is discovered, he is hunted down and killed, and his soul is purified with the flames of reincarnation, leaving it weak but pure. Having a weak soul limits options, though, and he is finally reincarnated on Earth, a place so sparce of æther, that even the System can't support itself there. After living an unfortunate life on Earth as Mathew Jones, his soul has grown strong enough to live in a world with æther. A world with the System.
