At least, that was the case until Elliazanna "Ellia" Revien and the squad she works in of Marked, who fight these dangerous creatures known as Necroids, finds a young boy with nearly no memories of his past sealed away in an ancient ruins.  Pursued relentlessly by the Necroids, and holding a deep and dangerous power within himself, he might just lead to their deaths...or maybe, their salvation. Can Ellia properly support the boy, even given the devestation and trauma of her past? Can the boy, Zazie, find the strength and control to save humanity from the Necroids? Will Ellia's Squadmates, Ezren and Joshua, be able to back them up? And will the captain be able to protect her squad and their wishes? Because no matter how you look at it, the road in front of them is full of suffering...and perhaps, worse.
