Synopsis
The world is a patchwork of gleaming metal megacities and desolate wastelands, shaped by centuries of technological expansion and environmental collapse. Towers rise in staggering heights, their neon lights slicing through the dense layers of smog that choke the lower levels. Cities are stratified vertically: the wealthiest live atop, basking in artificial sunlight from hovering skyports and rooftop gardens, while the lower levels—descending hundreds of floors into the bowels of the earth—are filled with decaying infrastructure and neglected streets. These subterranean levels become a chaotic mix of criminal syndicates, desperate citizens, and the forgotten remnants of pre-corporate society.
Interplanetary trade flourishes, with colonies stretching across moons and planetary bodies, each city-state orbiting the gravitational pull of the all-powerful corporations. Earth, now a battleground for resources and influence, is primarily controlled by mega-corporations, each with private armies, advanced AI, and stockpiles of advanced weaponry. As a result, wars aren’t fought in open fields but through covert operations, cyberwarfare, and the strategic placement of loyal cyber-augmented agents.
The natural world has become a husk, its lush ecosystems long replaced by corporate agro-factories, atmosphere scrubbers, and containment domes. Oceans have dwindled, replaced by toxic sludge pits or biodomes that house the last, sterilized remnants of marine life. Resource scarcity drives competition between corporations, forcing them to constantly expand and innovate, often disregarding human rights to fuel profit and survival.
Humanity has adapted, with cybernetics becoming as common as clothing. People replace worn limbs with sleek chrome prosthetics or adopt neural implants that allow them to connect directly to the Net Sphere, a vast and ancient digital network with mysterious origins and unknown boundaries. The Net Sphere holds fragments of lost knowledge, ancient AI, and enigmatic artifacts left behind by unknown entities. Only elite hackers, called "Divers," dare explore its depths, often returning with glimpses of forbidden data or dangerous weapons.
The line between human and machine blurs. Life expectancy extends beyond three centuries for those who can afford the finest bio-synthesized organs and cyber upgrades, but with these enhancements comes a cost: psychological decay, cyberpsychosis, and an increasing detachment from what remains of human nature.
