Synopsis
The island continent of Lathen has been in mild tension for generations. To the east lies Meleth – a unified country led by the ‘addict’ king, Murdoch IV. His nation, and its obsession with the magical arts, has grown rotten with political self-interest and secretive agendas. Meleth once ruled the entirety of Lathen, but in a much more peaceful age the west broke away from the empire, into independent regions of commerce and trade.
The most prominent of these regions is the city state of Al’Vie Al’Viet – known as the unofficial ‘Capital to the west’, the ever-autumnal city is a beacon of wealth, culture, and justice. However, in the depths of a dark night, the mayor’s execution takes place, and his apparent corruption sends waves throughout the labyrinthian streets. Kellor’s family – the Tiets – all elected into office alongside him, tries to mourn and heal in the weeks that follow. However, when his younger brother Theniel is visited by a mysterious scholar from Meleth, the unlikely accusation of corruption becomes an obvious ploy to destabilise the city.
The pieces of truth lay before Theniel and his wife Violette. An ambitious mage, Shaltannon, has disappeared from the Meletian capital of Highrise, along with his followers. Several children are found in their stead, exiting Shaltannon’s abandoned towers with little to no memory of what had happened. The Meletian army is marching west, with the addict king speaking of a ‘demonstration’ of some newfound power. The corpse of a witch is found in the attic of an abandoned squalor within Al’Vie Al’Viet – it appears she had been communing through some unknown magical art, on the night of Kellor’s execution.
As the Veletian couple, and their new Meletian friends, attempt to prepare for what is to come, one question hangs above all others…
… Who will survive the dark days that come?
