Evlee Family’s Main Hall
In the Evlee Family’s main hall sits the family chief, Evlee Kell, and the six elders of the family sit before him, with three on each side. As they discuss the business of the family, a slim brown haired young man walks into the main hall and stop in front of the chief.
“Lum, you have better have a good reason for interrupting us,” Evlee Kell says.
“Of course father. Earlier when I was out someone dared to insult me and our family,” Evlee Lum says with a respectful tone.
“What? Who dares to insult us?” Evlee Kell asks.
“It was Xia, and some stranger of the first-star Foundation realm,” Evlee Lum says with a cold smile on his face.
Off to the side, a gray haired elder shakes his head. He is the closest friend of Xia’s father, and he knows that Evlee Lum is mostly the one causing trouble for Xia. But what he doesn’t know is the extent of the trouble Evlee Lum was causing.
“Young master, are you sure that Xia is at fault? How can she control the actions of a stranger stronger than herself, just as you couldn’t stop the actions of this same person who was stronger than yourself?” The elder says, while also slightly insulting him.
Evlee Lum’s face turns ugly. How dare this elder argue with him, but before he burst out with anger his father talks.
“Elder Mil are you saying my son is lying?” Evlee Kell said with a cold tone.
Xia and her brother are the children of Evlee Kell’s younger brother, Evlee El. Kell hated his brother for being stronger than himself, and this was because the position of chief was almost handed to his brother instead of himself. The only reason Evlee Kell was given the position of family chief was because his brother had bastard children. His brother would have been killed for this offence if he wasn’t the strongest in the family.
Even as the chief of the family, Evlee Kell didn’t dare to oppose his brother. If Evlee El was alive at this moment, then Evlee Kell would have brushed the matter to the side and forgotten about it. This was because Evlee El was an unreasonable person. He would have killed anyone who tried to harm his children even if it was his brother. Going against Evlee El would have been suicide, even if the family had teamed up on him and won, they would have left the battle too weak to defend themselves from other families.
As such, Evlee Kell couldn’t do anything to his brother or his brother’s children when he was alive. But now that his brother has died, no one except Elder Mil wishes to protect those children, and with his strength alone those children won’t be protected for long.
“No, I was just saying that Evlee Lum could have misjudged the situation,” Evlee Mil says helplessly, as he looks to the other elders for support.
“Who here agrees with Elder Mil that my son has poor judgment?” Evlee Kell asks with a cold tone, as he looks from elder to elder.
Silence! The entire hall was silent.
“Hm, it seems you’re the only one, Elder Mil.” Evlee Kell says with a smirk. “To make up for insulting my son in front of me, I order you to deal with this stranger who insulted us. I want his corpse hanging in the city so people will know not to follow in that person's steps.” Evlee Kell says.
“Understood,” Evlee Mil says with anger in his tone.
The anger in his words doesn’t escape Evlee Kell’s notice. “Elder Mil, you’re dismissed to deal with this issue. Get the information you need from Lum and finish this,” Evlee Kell says, grinning.
After the two left, one of the elders speaks. “What about Xia?”
“We’ll deal with her after our meeting with the Bull family tomorrow,” Evlee says with shining eyes. Things are finally looking up for him. Evlee El has died, and now his children will be following his path soon. The Bull family’s young master is dead, because he hired some people to kill him, and then leave the city. Soon they’ll be able to attack the Bull family while they’re occupied with finding Bull Bem’s son.
‘All I had to do was poison my brother, and kill that Bull Ye to have so much good coming my way. If only I had thought of this earlier,’ Evlee Kell thinks to himself, as an evil smile comes across his face.
---------------------------------------
A brown haired and blue eyed teen about 16 to 17 years old walks through the city of Bull Red. There are whispers from the people around as they glance at this boy.
‘Since yesterday’s event, everyone seems to be looking at me. Leaving the city now isn’t really an option. If I were to leave because of yesterday’s event, then I should have not interfered, since leaving now would just allow the same thing to happen,’ Jen thinks to himself.
After walking for a bit, Jen notices that a person seems to be following him. Jen would probably not have noticed this person if he wasn’t trying to hide his presence, since the city has many people in it. Someone of a lower realm hiding their presence from someone in the Core realm is just about impossible.
With Jen being close to the peak of the Core Realm, how could a person of the Evolution realm, who isn’t an expert at concealment, hide from someone like him?
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
After a while of being followed, Jen decides to draw that person out and see what they want. Jen then proceeds to the exit, which would give him a straight shot to the forest he had come out from.
As soon as he takes off, the person who had been following him also shoots off in the same direction. Knowing that he has been found out, he no longer tries to hide. The face of the man following Jen turns to shock as he follows him. Not only is this person, who he thought was weaker, able to notice him, but even at his fastest speed, he isn’t able to catch up with Jen.
‘Is this boy really only a first-star Foundation cultivator, or is he using some kind of treasure? There’s no way a 16-year-old boy can be at the Evolution realm, it’s already impressive that he is at the Foundation realm. Damn, that brat Evlee Lum didn’t says that this kid was a 16-17 years old Foundation realm cultivator. There must be someone powerful backing him. I must kill him fast before he can bring this expert here,’ the man following Jen thinks to himself.
When they reach the forest, Jen stops in front of it and turns around to stare at the man following him.
“Who are you, and why are you following me?” Jen asks.
“I’m Evlee Mil, an elder of the Evlee Family, and I have come to take your corpse back to our chief. I’ll make this fast since you helped Xia,” Evlee Mil says with a hint of sadness in his voice. He doesn’t want to kill this boy, but it is the chief’s orders. Besides, for him to be so strong, and to have such a treasure, means that someone powerful is behind him. Evlee Lum has already offended this boy, and if the person behind him finds out, then the consequence could be severe.
“Hmph, the Evlee Family is truly despicable. I stopped those boys from raping that girl, but instead of thanking me, and punishing them, you want to kill me?” Jen says with anger in his voice, as he stares at Evlee Mil.
Evlee Mil mind is in turmoil. He never thought that Evlee Lum would do something so despicable. Who cares if the deed was done to a stranger; that’s just how the world of the strong works. But to even think of doing that to one’s own family is deserving of death! He is outraged to the point that his face had turned fully red, and veins could be seen on his faces.
‘I’ll kill him! I’ll kill him! I’ll kill him!’ Evlee Mil keeps yelling in his head.
But Jen, on the other hand, is confused. He didn’t think that what he said should make the other person this mad. Could it be that he has a small temper, or did he not know what those guys were doing.
At that moment, Evlee Mil speaks. “I’ll finish up here, and then when given the chance I’ll kill that bastard, Lum! Even if I’m killed afterwards by the family, I can’t let that person live! If I don’t kill him, then how can I ever look my friend El in his eyes in the next life?” Evlee Mil yells with rage. Nothing in this world can stop Evlee Mil’s anger except Evlee Lum suffering in his arms, as he feels that boy’s life slowly draining from his body.
At the moment he finished yelling, he jumps towards Jen. He still has to kill this kid before him and satisfy Evlee Kell, so he can later find the opportunity to kill Evlee Lum.
“Sorry kid, but you have to die so I can later kill that Lum.” Evlee Mil says.
“Hmph, you still want to kill me? Well then, I have no other choice,” Jen says as he points his index finger at Evlee Mil. “Midnight Finger Strike,” Jen says in a low voice that only he can hear.
After saying that his finger starts to glow with a dark aura, and a split second later a black beam shoots out of his finger towards Evlee Mil. If a person was to watch this beam from the side they would see specks of light in it, as if there were stars in the black beam.
The beam flies through the air at lightning speed. It is so fast Evlee Mil doesn’t even know what had killed him as it goes through his head.
The Midnight Finger Strike is a Grand Low level martial art. Though Jen can’t use its full power, he’s able to use some of it. But even in this weakened state it can still be considered a Mid Mortal level martial art.
The Midnight Finger Strike is a part of the Midnight martial arts series; a group of martial arts which relied on the same cultivation method to perform them.
In the game, players were able to create martial arts if they held an understanding of the way the power system functioned within the game. By understanding the way the power within the game flowed through the body with the use of certain physical, and mental movements, a person can create a martial art. And as for this Midnight series, it was created by Jen.
As Jen stared at the body of the man who attacked him a thought flashed through his mind. ‘What have I done? I’ve just killed someone, without the slightest remorse or regret. I was, of course, trying to defend myself, but still, I’ve never killed anyone in my entire life. How could I so easily take one now? Shouldn’t I feel something, like shock, disgust, or grief for what I’ve done? But I don’t feel anything; well, at least, I also don’t feel joy, but I feel like nothing of significant has happened. Like I didn’t take another human's life, but instead crashed an ant.’
“WHAT THE HELL HAS HAPPENED TO ME!” Jen yells with shock on his face as he stares at the corpse of Evlee Mil.
