Prologue - A Brief History

Asgar breathed in deeply as his whole body trembled in barely restrained excitement as he jumped over the low fence and into the woods. In his hands was the dagger that he had bought after saving up all his pocket money that he had received from his mother. Being reincarnated into a rather poor family had him waiting a long time before he was able to save enough to buy an expensive equipment as this.

The dagger was special, in it, there was a Creal stone embedded. A stone that is only found after killing a beast of the dark one. These beasts were abundant in number all across Faros, and their numbers had made it hard for humans to settle down in the continent originally. The mages at the time had created methods of utilizing the energy stones left behind by these monsters, enabling the humans to flourish in the land.

As the years went by, the number of humans increased and the number of beasts roaming freely decreased as settlements started to crop up and corralled the beasts into secluded area. One would think that humans would have eventually hunted the beasts into extinction with their technology and their prowess, but alas it was not as simple.

The Lord and ruler of Gailith, Viscount Raul, an immortal that was chained within his own land, influenced the beasts as time wore on and turned them even stronger. The closer the beasts were to the prison, the stronger they became.

It took humanity a while to figure this out, and when they did, large scale expeditions were launched into the lands of Gailith to slay the evil sorcerer, but it was too late.

While the Sorcerer was chained and was only allowed some freewill to touch the world momentarily at times, it was enough for him to amass an army so formidable that humans were incapable of penetrating it. It was all humans could do to simply organize hunting parties at regular intervals to make sure that the sorcerer was incapable of amassing even more power.

It was in this manner that the Clash system was initiated. Portals embedded with higher tier Creals were installed in every single village and city across the continent. Humans had access to increase their strength and their magical prowess. For the first time, a semblance of power had been established.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Asgar though thought of none of that. He only focused on the dagger in his hand and walked forward as he saw a small wolf sniffing on the ground. But it wasn't a normal wolf, no it was dark grey in colour with pieces of its skin missing, showing the muscle rippling underneath.

Its eyes were dark red, showing the sign of Raul's touch. Asgar slowly walked forward before he felt that he was in range. He jumped forward with nary a sound and plunged his dagger into the neck area of the wolf.

He had practiced this particular maneuver several times on a dummy, but the real thing was obviously different.

The wolf reacted by jerking and hopping away while growling. Saliva dripped down from its teeth as it glared at Asgar. Blood bled from the back of its neck in a liberal amount, but it paid it no attention as its anger was focused on Asgar only.

Asgar gulped slightly as he had expected the wolf to die in one hit. "Well no worries crying over spilled milk now right? Come on you overgrown mutt, show me what you got!" Asgar mumbled as he sprang forward to meet the now charging mutt.

The two ran at each other at superhuman speeds before Asgar suddenly dropped and slid across the ground while the wolf watched in slight shock as it sailed over him. Asgar grinned as he stuck his knife upwards and sliced through the stomach of the wolf.

The wolf howled in agony before collapsing on the floor and dying. The red light left its eyes as its body slowly started to disappear. It left behind a dull grey coloured Creal, and a very small one at that. It would barely fetch Asgar 10 copper. But money was money in the end. Asgar scooped up the tiny Creal and placed it in his pouch that was at his waist as he grinned in excitement.

"Now that is what I am talking about, after being cooped up in that house for the last nine years, this is what I was yearning for. Time to go and hunt me some more wolfies!" Asgar grinned as he sheathed his dagger and stalked around the first perimeter of the forest. Whatever life had in store for him in the future, it would most certainly be more interesting than whatever it was in his previous life.
