Melody is commanded to be the leader of the Sirens, an elite group of vampiric mermaids that must sacrifice humans to the Sea Goddess, using their Goddess-given powers. However, she is torn by her tendency to sympathize with the human victims, causing a rift between her and the other Sirens. She does participate in the bloodshed due to a duty to her tribe, but all of that may change when she sees the man of her dreams aboard a Viking ship that she is drawing to its demise.
