Chapter 2: Point of view from the Nurse

I’m sitting at the desk, staring at a computer screen while waiting on the representative of NewLife. I sigh and think about what happened a few days ago.

[2 Days ago]

I was staring at the computer screen in surprise. I was in particular staring at an email. I could not believe it. The VRMMORP company NewLife wanted to “Borrow” a few patients to test their newest game. -This could be perfect- I thought, with this, some of the patients could start anew. I started looking for patients that would be perfect for this program.

Patient 16:

Name: Albert Swiederstijn

Gender: Male

Age: 24

Mental problem: Violent outburst, Sexual desire, can’t control his lust.

-This guy is definitely not a good match for the program.-

Patient 27

Name: Lisanna Verleen

Gender: Female

Age: 18

Mental Problem: Psychotic outburst, Murder Intent, Impulse disorder

-Nope, definitely a no-

patient 34

Name: Belsar Vilda

Gender: Male

Age: 15

Mental problem: Anxiety Disorder, Schizophrenia,  Somatic symptom disorder

- This guy could be a potential tester. I will keep him in mind- The nurse thought thoughtfully. Then she kept scrolling until she came across a certain patient. It was patient 41.

patient 41:

Name: Samantha, no last name

Gender: Female

Age: Unclear

Mental problem: Dissociative disorder

The nurse remembered her instantly. She came here around 2 or 3 years ago. She was big news so to speak. She was one of the few patients that tried to be friendly and positive. The reason why she was big news was because her case became national. She killed 5 guys that tried to rape her in a disturbing way and after she was caught they found out about her mental problem.

Another interesting thing was that her past is completely unknown. Even the police and the 

psychiatrists couldn’t find out a thing about her. We thought that she was around 15 years old, but that’s it.

She also has an interesting disorder. She has a total of 4 different personalities and she can talk to them directly. It is interesting to say at least. After it was found out she was send here and I realised she was a nice girl that unfortunately couldn’t talk. We tried a lot to make her talk but in the end came to the conclusion that only the personalities could talk.

The moment I remembered the personalities I shuddered. I did not want to meet them again.

It was the first day that she came here and I walked into her room. Samantha was sleeping and I tried to wake her by touching her shoulders. Unfortunately it wasn’t Samantha who woke up, but War. War is an overprotective personality and I had to run for my life and close the door before she could kill me. After that encounter I always waited until Samantha woke up before talking to her.

Up and until this point we only know the names of the four personalities. It’s funny because their names are those of the four horseman of the apocalypse namely:

Pestilence/Plague

 War

Hunger/Desire

Death

When I asked Samantha why those were their names she just looked at me in a way like “How the hell should I know?”

I smile at that memory because it was funny the way she looked.

[ back to the present]

I look up when I hear the sound of footsteps coming over. I see a male walking towards me with a smile on his face. He stops right before the desks and asks politely

“I’m supposed to have an appointment with 2 patients”
