Taking inspiration from Worm, Magical Girl Gunslinger, and various fictions by Thundamoo, Calypso features a world facing similar problems of invading monsters (through magical distortions) while Earth starts gaining its own magic. Sure, there are superheros and magical girls that seem to have access to a limited "System," born from the very best of society to fight monster incursions. However, the government is keen to utilize their weapons to empower soldiers, resulting in an entire class of "heros" in regular society basing magic not on character but scientific advancement, with criminals now becoming empowered "villains." However, the protagonist is not any of these, simply another member of the growing class of children caught in the fray, given powers she doesn't want nor the control over them to prevent herself becoming a menace to society.
