Rei's life has continually been on autopilot, each moment seemingly pre-decided as she goes from day to day in her village. As the years have passed, she slowly begins to question her position in her village. Eventually, she befriend a man from the village named Shugo, who has great knowledge of The Deep--a powerful energy source that binds reality together. The two become friends, with Shugo beginning to teach Rei poetry.However, as they start to build their relationship, the village has come under assault by a group of bandits.
