In a city run by corporations, where everything is for sale, and the divide between the rich and poor is ever-expanding, freedom is a seeming pipe dream. Ria keeps her illusion of freedom by living the life of a solo merc, in a never-ending cycle of earning creds with morally ambiguous jobs just to upgrade her gear for making more creds doing even more morally ambiguous jobs.
