T’was morning with the gorgeous sun being gorgeously brilliant high up into the sky. An azure sky clear of clouds, gleaming its beautiful, crisp color. I hate days, but this day was going to be a very beautiful day. The smell of pancakes fills my nose as I hopped into the shower. It wasn’t long before I was staring into the mirror preening myself and my make up with a skillful eye, taking much time and effort to making sure everything was perfect. I observed myself after. My beautiful amber eyes glistened with pride, my long chocolate hair, my sweet apple face, my blossoming bosom, and my gorgeous figure. I looked perfect today. I knew I didn’t have much time left before I must get going to school, so I picked out a simply divine summer dress with heels to match.
I strolled downstairs to momma, who was cooking, and daddy, who was watching the news. My daddy caught a glance and gave me a huge, proud smile, “Oh look at my beautiful little girl all grown up!”
“Daddy, you’re embarrassing me.”
“You know how I am, sugar plum. Wake up, please, Ophelia.”
“What?” Raising a brow at that last part.
“Are you ready for the prom tonight?”
I shook my head, must’ve misheard it. I bubbled, “Yeah, daddy! I’m so exciting!!”
“Good.” Then a displeasing look, “If that boy ever touches you in a place that you feel uncomfortable…”
I giggled, “Daddy, Arthur isn’t gonna do anything like that. He’s a good man.”
Daddy’s eyes soften, “If you say so. Get yourself something to eat, sweetheart.”
“Oki doki, daddy.” Giving him a sweet, small kiss right on his cheek as I skipped off to momma.
“Good morning, sweetheart!” Momma sang as she made me a plate of blueberry pancakes. “Are you excited for prom?”
“Yup!” I chirped as I took my first bite of blueberry pancakes, my favorite.
“Daddy isn’t happy about me being with a boy.”
“He’s just grumpy that you’re all grown up. Give him some time, he’ll come around. Wake up now, Ophy!”
“What? Wake up?”
The doorbell rang, “Sweetie, would you be a dear and answer the door?”
I shrugged it off, I must be mishearing things, “Okay, momma!” I bubbled as I skipped over to the door. When I opened it, it was Arthur looking very handsome with his bad boy look. I was girly goo just looking at him, “Hi, Arthur.” I spoke with a melodic, syrupy, sweet voice.
He blushed as he composed himself. Always trying to look like a bad boy, “Hey babe. Ready to go?” When he’s a teddy bear on the inside. I nodded as I grabbed my school bad and hopped into his car. It was nothing special, but being in it with him makes it so special. “How was your sleep?”
“It was good I guess… I had a dream about you.”
His right eyebrow raised, “What was it about?”
“Well, that I had super powers, looked like a vampire, and you were some kind of government agent, helping me. After some kind of power testing thing, you took me out to eat, and kissed me good bye.”
He pulled into the school, “Sounds like a good dream.” Giving me this dreamy look that nearly turned me into a pile of girly goo and cuteness.
“Yeah. You were a good kisser in the dream too.” I gazed at his lips expectantly as he leaned in, giving me a deep kiss that turned my brain into mush.
When we pulled away, he softly spoke, “Wake up, Ophy, you’re in danger.”
I blinked, “What?”
He grinned and winked as he got out of the car.
School was boring as usual. Because it’s prom day, the teachers are going easy on us students. Which is good for me because I’m terrible at school. Watching movies, and chatting with friends is all I need. Then the speaker came on, “Ophelia Sandusky, come to the principal’s office, Ophelia Sandusky.” There were a lot of ‘Ooos’ like I did something bad, but it was probably just my aunt again. She’s kinda of an eccentric, and I’m not very sure how she’s related to us since she has that German accent.
I walked in, “You need me for something, Aunt Calla?” Her full name is Mircalla von Karnstein. See what I’m talking about? Not even sure how she’s related to me.
“Good, you’re here, little flower. Can you come close for me?”
I raised an eyebrow as I came up to her, “What is it-”
She took me by the shoulders and shook me, “Wake the fuck up, Ophy, right now! Wake up!! Hurry!!!” The room turned to darkness as her voice turned deep and demonic, “WAKE UP!!!”
I found myself staring to an open mouth with two rows of sharp teeth about to chop down on my neck. Time slowed. I threw my blanket into the jaws and rolled off the bed. I didn’t have time before a claw reached for me, I ducked out of the way just in time. I exploded forward, pushing my legs hard against the ground, but it was too hard as I smashed against my door. The daze was just a second but another claw came for me, I didn’t react fast enough and it ripped against my back. I screamed from the agony, but was able to dodge another claw as I ducked and smashed through the door to open it. I found a window in Julia’s bedroom, closed the door behind me, and crash my way out of it down two stories of house, rolling down to stop my momentum. The piercing of pain was enough to make me scream. I kept composure the best I could. I needed time to think.
I glanced back for moment and saw a werewolf. A fucking werewolf was attacking me! He looked just like in the movies. Stood on two feet, massive, black fur, and very angry eyes. The electrifying feeling of energy soaked into my legs as I booked it as hard as I could in front of me, it was a forest. Fuck the worse place to be running away from a werewolf in. When did my life turn into a horror movie? There was a throbbing and tingle in my back as the wound closed itself. I knew I had regeneration but holy shit.
If I remember correctly, I’m somewhere near or inside of Dalton Park. Sometimes I wonder if the park is a wildlife reservation and not a park, it’s that level of big. If you go off trail, you can easily get lost out here. Great place for hiking and riding bikes. Fiona and I used to come out here with a few of her friends for picnics. Ryan and his girlfriend too sometimes.
Little flower, don’t talk, only listen. Sorry for not warning your sooner.
I gave her a mental, “Don’t worry about it. I survived.”
I need you to keep your guard up. Weres are known for being a crafty bunch who, based on their form, will have different fighting styles. Fortunately, you’re going up against a wolf, a balanced and versatile form. Considering that this one is away from his pack, he’ll be at a disadvantage. But do NOT understatement him. For now, you need to find an open place, somewhere he can’t ambush you. Even with your darkvision he can still blend in with nature, make great use of your Bloodsight, but not too much. As you’ve witness, Bloodsight turns everything around you blurry while focusing solely on blood.
I nodded, I once nearly tripped over a step when I used blood sight too much.
One last thing before you go, little flower. I wanted to give you time to get used to your basic powers and new form, but we don’t have time. I must teach you a basic spell. But you must not use it until the right moment.

She told me the spell. It was way simpler than I anticipated. I thought it would involve known magic circles or having to do some kind of math equation.
I activated bloodsight and took a good scan around the area. I saw blood pumping, staring at me. It was far, but not too far. The massive heart pumped like an engine slowly heating up. The damn werewolf.
I sprinted through the wilderness, found a trail, and followed it. I didn’t bother to see where the damn furry was coming from, I didn’t care. I needed to move and it seems like it was hunting me. Which is good, that works in my favor, he won’t attack until he feels ready. I needed to get him off balance somehow, and as I found a gorgeous midnight meadow, I think I knew how.
I took my place in the middle of the meadow, and took a long, deep, peaceful breath. I heard rustling in front of me. It was the werewolf, he seemed to be scanning me for openings. I smiled, I haven’t been in a fight since high school. The adrenaline permeated my body.
Furry boy didn’t give me enough time to even come up with a game plan before he came over me with a clumsy claw. I slid out of the way on the balls of my feet. He goes for another, I dodge, another, I parry. He goes for a quick kick, but I parry it with my leg.
When my dad found me praying to god to turn me into a girl, he did what any father wanting to man his son up would do. He sent me to a martial arts gym. I hated it at first, but as time went on, I began to enjoy the fighting at least a little bit. It became an art, and I quickly became proficient in kickboxing. Especially when I started watching all the female fighters. They were so strong, and so beautiful that I found myself enjoying fighting a bit more. I quit after I came to college, but I never stopped practicing it here and there.
So, when fucker in a fur suit threw another lazy ass claw at me, I front kicked him right in the nose. He yelped and stagger back. My body was positively thrumming with energy. My smiled grew to a grin as ‘Boys Wanna Be Her’ by Peaches began playing, “You really think all those half-ass scratches were gonna beat me?” I got into stance, “You better surrender now before I break a few bones.”
Furry fucker growled at me.
“Oh, so that’s how you wanna play huh, furry fucker?” I cracked my knuckles, “Let’s fight!” Furry fucker ran throwing a sharp claw at me, I slid back, dodging and sending a kick into his ugly face as I mumbled, ‘You've got them all, by the balls. Causin' waterfalls.’
I pushed forward with a punch to his unguarded kidney and solar plexus, ‘Stone walls. Bar Brawls.’
He tried to grab me but I slid and elbowed him in the neck, causing him to back, ‘Common stalls that cause ‘em all.’
Furry composed himself quickly as he jumped back to reset and dodge from a round house I threw at him. I didn’t let him get a chance as I sent a flurry of punches, ‘To you they crawl, body sprawl’, none of them hit anything vital. He balled a fist and made a punch, I blocked, he made his only flurry of heavy punches as I gave him the advantage for a quick second, ‘Smokin' Pall Malls.’
However, he didn’t expect me slide to the right and low kick his foot out from under him causing him to tumble, ‘Close call, stand tall.’ I let him get up.
He spoke with a growling, angry tone, “You are strong, young abomination. May I know your name?”
I started, “Oph-” but stopped. Oops, almost used my real name. Arthur said not to ever use my real name when something serious like a fight or being questioned by the MSB happens. The thing is, I really hate my codename. I spent a good two minutes naming any name I could think of. I was going to take on the code name Carmilla, but some bitch took it before I could. I went down the line, and the only one that wasn’t taken was, “Dhampir.” The cringe was embarrassing, the codename sounded like something some poser douche would pick, but I ignored it.
“I am Lone Wolf! You have fought valiantly, Dhampir. But this is the end for you.” His body began to morph, he was already massive but then he got bigger until he changed into a massive wolf with red eyes, “Prepare to die!!”
I popped my neck, “Okay then, come on furry fucker!” The wolf moved quick, but he was still slow compared to my reflexes, ‘Doll, you make them feel so small.’ I diverted essence to my legs as I slid under him and kicked him right in the balls, ‘And they love it!” He squealed like a little girl as his body went smaller and smaller, back to his weird-ass hybrid form.
I thought I had it all in the bag, then I felt a strong grip on my leg. I tried to struggle but I fell instead. That’s when he sunk his large jaws, his razer sharp teeth ripping into my leg, flesh tearing.
I screamed as I heard cracks under his jaw which caused me to scream more. With painful tears in my eyes, there was a flashback to Carmilla teaching me how to cast the spell. I focused myself the best I could under this pain. Remembering the searing heat of fire, the smell of smoke, the taste of ash, sound of crackling, and the rage of the flame that blazed on. I pushed my hands out as the hum of essence exploded forward into flames purging my enemy into cinder.
The only problem is I couldn’t stop. I tried to pull back but I couldn’t. All the energy sucked out of me as I roasted the furry alive. His howls of agony and pain were frightening, but not as frightening as the thought of murdering him. I diverted my flames upward instead as the last of my mana fizzled out.
A bead of sweat rolled down my cheek as I crawled away from the werewolf. A heavy weight I didn’t notice fell off me as I used bloodsight. He’s alive, unconscious and probably in a lot of pain, but alive. I took deep breaths as the agonizing pain in my leg nearly caused me to black out. I bit on my messed-up night gown as I screeched.
I needed blood, lots of blood, lots and lots of blood right now. I crawled myself to the now naked, burnt man. I thought about taking a bite on his neck but that’d kill him.
Oh, take as much blood as you want from the werewolf, little flower. He has regeneration, so he will heal fast. Fire slows down regeneration. He won’t be getting up any time soon.
“Okay.” I shrugged as I took a bite of his neck and savored the sweet, iron strawberry blood of the werewolf. I felt the tingle and throbbing of my leg as it slowly healed up. Arthur is right, these powers are versatile and strong. I took as much as I could while checking on him with bloodsight. Sure, he wanted to kill me, but I didn’t want to kill him. I’m not a killer after all.
I took a testing step with my injured foot. It gave a dull ache but nothing like the searing, piercing, agonizing pain of fleshing and bone rending before. I exhaled in relief.
I turned my attention to the werewolf. I couldn’t just leave him here. He could die or get captured by the MSB. I sighed as I picked him up over my head, placed him in a safe place, and walked back to the house. Someone will find him, and send him to a hospital. Which took a while as I got lost several times trying to get back to the Alumni house.
When I got back, I immediately grabbed my phone and called Arthur. He picked up with an adorable, tired voice, “Who is it?”
“It’s Ophelia. I have a slight problem.”
He perked up, “What is it?”
“Well uh, a werewolf attacked me.”
“Bloody hell, you okay?!”
“Yeah, a little scratched up but I healed quick. Turns out Lone Wolf the werewolf is terrible at fighting.”
Arthur’s voice tensed, “Is he dead?”
“Oh gosh no, I dragged him to a safe spot. He’s definitely alive, a little toasted, but alive.”
“A little toasted?”
“I learned how to cast a spell that was basically a flamethrower.”
“I’m coming, where are you?”
“I’m at the Alumni house at Walnut University. Here let me send you the address.”
“Good, stay there. I’ll be right there.”
“Yes, sir.” I mocked a salute that Arthur could probably see with his imagination.
“Bye.”
“Bye.”
Shockingly I feel very much alive and energetic. Too bad that was the adrenaline, and as soon as Arthur got to me, I was a puddle of sick and puke as if I just drink very bad milk. Poor Arthur had to lift me like a princess (EEEEEE) into the back seat. I tried putting on my best smile but he was in agent serious mode.
“I’m sorry for bothering you, Arthur.” I slurred. Things were getting really blurry as I took another puke in my puke bowl.
“You’re not bothering me. Just lay down and get some rest, okay, love?”
“Okay, wuv u.” My voice doing its own thing. Arthur replied only with a nod. An anxiety came to me while sitting in the back of Arthur’s car, “Am I going too fast?”
“What?” Arthur took a glance at the rear-view.
“Am I uh going too fast in this relationship?”
“You really wanna talk about it right now?”
“Better now than never. Anyway, am I going to fast? Are we going too fast?”
There was a soft snort from Arthur, “I certainly wasn’t expecting to have a sweet fling with a beautiful woman while on the job,”
I blushed as the butterflies fluttered around inside of my tummy. How is he so good at turning me into girly goo?
“And I certainly wasn’t expecting for it to develop so fast. No, I feel like it’s going my speed. I’m not someone who cares about all the weird love drama stuff.”
“Okay, I want to make sure I wasn’t making you uncomfortable.”
A cute smile appeared on his face, “No, Ophy, you aren’t making me uncomfortable. As a good friend told me while you were receiving power testing, ‘Just relax and enjoy. Don’t have any expectation with her and enjoy her company’ is what she said, I think.”
I felt relieved. I’ve had this deep subtle anxiety that I’m going too fast and making him uncomfortable, “They sound like a wise person.”
“Well, she’s married with children so she definitely knows more than me. Up until now, all I’ve only ever thought of was work, work, work. I never had time or given thought about relationships.”
“Me too somewhat.” I chuckled, “Not about work, but the anxiety of knowing that no one worth anything would really want me. I never been kissed until uh today haha.”
Arthur smiled handsomely with much warmed, “I’m your first kiss?”
“Uh yes.” Feeling the heat of a blush on my face.
“That’s quite an honor for me to have. Unfortunately, I’ve kissed before, but nothing really special. A truth or dare thing when I was a kid.”
“I’m sure you were popular with the ladies.”
Arthur chuckled solemnly, “Not really, I moved from place to place as a kid. I was an Army brat. It happened when I was a young kid and my pops had a stationary position for several years. After that, I never had time to make friends. It’s also the reason why I got out of the house as soon as possible.”
“Wow, I feel like this is very personal, thank you for telling me.”
Arthur shrugged, “No, it’s nothing personal.”
I furrowed my brow, “How did you become a DSA agent? Aren’t only American citizens can work government jobs?”
“Funny thing about that. My mum is British and my pops is America. I became a dual citizen due to my move across the pond many times over the years.”
“That’s really cool.” I would say that with more energy but I’m feeling very tired all the sudden, “If you don’t mind, I’m going to pass out here.”
“That sounds like a brilliant idea, get some rest, Ophy. After your night, I’m just glad you’re alive.” A warm feeling came to me. Maybe it’s the raging fever, or maybe it’s being told that someone is glad that I’m alive. Can’t tell at this point as everything feels like it’s on fire.
