Chapter 173- Ruins of Khul Darum Part 2

Dungeon- Ruins of Khul Darum

Jacob reviewed the quests of Khul Darum as his War Party entered the last part of the dungeon, they had a nasty fight with the Drow, but they had managed to down the Matriarch and Swordmaster. It was now time to deal with the Duergar.

Dungeon Quest Issued: Reclaiming Khul Darum

Description: Long ago, when the Kingdom of the Vampires was destroyed, Khul Darum was founded in the ruins of the aftermath. This Dwarven Hold built to watch over the once desolate lands quickly fell to invasion after the war. The Duergar Clan, Bloodfiend, slaughtered the inhabitants before being invaded by the Drow. These factions are still fighting for control today. Slay the leaders and drive them back into the Underdark.

Dungeon Quest Issued: The Cleansing of Khul Darum

Description: The ruins of Khul Darum are overflowing with Duergar soldiers and Drow warriors. Thin their numbers to weaken their hold on the Dwarven stronghold and drive them back into the deep Underdark.

Drow Warriors Slain: 200/200

Duergar Warriors Slain: 27/200

Reward: 50,000 Experience, 1,000 Gold

Jacob was not looking forward to this part of the Dungeon, the Duergar were better organized but didn't do as much damage as the Drow though. They were organized in groups of five, 1 or 2 tanks, 2-3 DPS, and a designated healer in each group. Once in a while an officer or Sergeant would appear with two others, usually with a healer and a Rogue type, those were the most dangerous fight so far.

Chalxae came back from scouting ahead, "There is a checkpoint ahead with three parties and Captain Urgathar Bonecrusher. It fortified with makeshift walls and stakes. I saw three Tanks and four Priests."  Chalxae stated as she drew the fortification and Duergar positions in the dust and dirt to illustrate the defenses.

Jacob studied the drawing and considered what they had, "Ok this is what we are going to do..." Jacob started laying out the plans as his War Party added their opinions on what was going to happen.

Jacob, Thelgrum, and Rory did their best to sneak up on the checkpoint, but heavy duty tanks and melee types are not built for sneaking. Having two Golems, a Demon Warrior, and a squad of Skeletal Warriors did nothing to help with the matter either. Jacob winced as the guards finally noticed them but then skeletal hands exploded from the ground pinning most of them in place as Jacob and all the melee types charged the checkpoint.

The Duergar grimly waited behind the makeshift defenses content to be where they were when suddenly a Meteor flashed overhead and slammed into the center of their line. Three Duergar went flying back and only one tank stood his ground but he was noticably shaken as Rory, and all the summoned minions slammed into the center of the Duergar line.

Jacob analyzed the boss quickly before he joined the fray.

Name: Captain Urgathar Bonecrusher

Level: 41 (Boss)

Health: 250,000/250,000

Abilities: Rally Cry, Aura of Melevolance, Unknown

Jacob snarled as he triggered Battle Stomp as he cleared the wall. The impact stunned half the remaining Duergar as Jacob quickly triggered War Cry. The Bosses eyes blazed with hatred immiedietly started foreward but Junes pet shot webbing at the Boss pinning it in place for 1 minute as long as no attacks landed on him. Bonecrushers shriek of rage brought a smile to Jacob's face as a Firewall and Abyssal Incineration exploded under the packed ranks of the Duergar.

The Duergar Priests were working franticly to heal all their damaged bretheren but Chalxae and June materilzed like ghosts among their ranks. Jacob smiled and called out to Star to join them and devastating the healers while Jacob and the remaining party members continued to hammer at the main force of the Duergar.

Jacob triggered Hemorrhage as Mug channaled Fairy Fire into the compact ranks causing even more damage. Jacob laughed at the sheer chaos the AoE spells were reaping and with the four healers distracted, the Duergar started going down one at a time. Bonecrusher snarled and finally broke free with a shout.

Jacob cursed as an aura sorrounded all the Duergar, Jacob targeted the Boss and triggered Piercing Lunge, but Bonecrusher stopped it with his shield cold. Jacob snaraled and triggered Shield Bash followed by Triple Slash openeing three large wounds on the Duergars chest. Bonecrusher laughed darkly and triggered his own Shield Bash. Jacob tried to brace himself and when the blow landed he felt a pop.

De-Buff Dislocated Shoulder: Cannot use a shield/off-hand weapon (Duration 5 Minutes)

Battle Alert...

Jacob cursed and backpeddeled as he desperatly fended off Captain Urgathar Bonecrusher assualt. The Duergar was quick with his short sword and he could still use his arm. Jacob couldn't pull a healing Tonic as long as he was defending himself so Jacob triggered Summon Fire Elemental and with a gout of fire, a Level 48 Fire Elemental appeared and immediately sent a wave of fire at the Dungeon Boss who roared in anger as he faced the new threat.

Jacob quickly slammed Moonlight into its sheeth as he pulled a Minor Healing Tonic from his belt and downed it followed by a Minor Healing Potion. Jacob grunted as the Tonic as healed his shoulder and the few wounds the Boss had inflicated started to heal up. The Fire Elemental wasn't doing so well but a Bone and Magma Spear slammed into the Boss and exploded. Next, the Boss was Cursed with Desiccation and Darkness as Fenwyn and Patemal went to work on the burly Duergar.

Jacob quickly scanned the ongoing battle while he had a moment, three of the Priests were down and the fourth was dieing. Rory was a bloody mess but Thelgrum was holding strong against the remaining Duergar soldiers. Overall the battle was going well Jacob thought as he triggered Reaver Attack. Bonecrusher howled in pain and rage as Jacob assualted him from is exposed flank but it did not disuade him from finishing off the Fire Elemental. Jacob smiled as he triggered Power Slash, Shield Bash, and Triple Slash causing the Boss to stagger as his health notiacbly dropped.

Bonecrusher glared at Jacob and triggered Shield Bash but Jacob smirked this time as he triggered Iron Will stopping the Bosses attack cold. Jacob then counter attacked using Shield Charge bowling over the Boss before he had time to set himself and leaving him vulnrable to attack.

Star and Chalxae appeared and began biting and stabbing at the downed boss. Jacob dashed toward the last of the Duergar defenders while the Boss was downed. An Explosive Arrow and Fireball proceded his attack breaking their ranks and allowing Jacobs followup attack to be that more devestating as he slammed into their ranks. Of the original 15 Warriors, they were down to six and the combined assualt from behind quickly downed two of the Duergar.

A loud yelp from Star brought Jacob attention back to the boss as he slowly regained his feet. Jacob fired off a quick Analyze as he turned to deal with him again.

Name: Captain Urgathar Bonecrusher

Level: 41 (Boss)

Health: 72,327/250,000 (Broken Arm, Open Wounds, Blinded, Punctured Lung, Cursed)

Abilities: Rally Cry, Aura of Malevolence, Unknown

Jacob dismissed the information as he triggered Charge and Piercing Lunge as Mug cast Moon Beam on Star. Star growled as her Aura pulsed and she howled triggering Call of the Pack. Void Wolves appeared from the shadows and threw themselves at the Boss who was fighting desperately. Within 5 minutes Urgathar Bonecrusher died under the hail of magic, steel, and claws.

Jacob and his party sat down as they all recovered from the grueling battle. It had been too close for comfort, thank goodness they had unlocked all those AoE spells, otherwise, they would have been screwed. It also outlined a vulnerability within his own Legions he would have to figure out how to counter. Jacob dismissed his thoughts as he brought checked the Dungeon Quests and they had 6 more Duergar and Lord Malfik Oondergrime left to clear out. Who knew how many were actually in between them and the Duergar lord though.

Jacob looked at the end of the hall and sitting on the dais, was a throne with Lord Malfik Oondergrime sitting on it. He had a crossbow on his lap and a pair of short-swords strapped to his belt. A Priest and another Spellcaster stood on either side of him and six Duergar Soldiers stood at the base of the dais. June and Chalxae were already sneaking around within the room and waiting for them to begin the attack. Jacob could make out June's spider scuttling around the roof of the cavern causing Jacob to shiver at his own memories of spiders dropping from the ceiling to ambush them.

Jacob shook his head and turned to face the party, "Ok Thelgrum and I are on point. June and Chalxae are getting into position to down the spellcasters as soon as possible. One is a Priest/Cleric type and the other is unknown. The boss, Lord Malfik Oondergrime, is armed with a Crossbow and two Short-Swords. So he will be a Rogue/Ranger type of opponent. We take out the soldiers at the base of the dais quickly before moving on the Boss. Questions or ideas?" Jacob stated as he started activating his self buffs. Blood Fusion, Blood and Bone Armor, and Blood Pact on Snaggletooth as he received Lifes Endurance, Firepact, Blessing of the Wild, and Blessing of the Ancient Kings.

Jacob dismissed all the alerts as he turned the corner and started running toward the dais. Jacob cursed as a Meteor slammed into them.

Jacob shook off the blast but Jacob noticed Rory was picking himself off the ground. Next, Jacob noticed the Duergar spellcaster cast a Firewall, "Pyromancer!!" Jacob called out as he grunted as he kept running to get into range.

Suddenly Jacob smiled as he triggered Charge, the Pyromancer gnashed his teeth as the Fireball overshot Jacob and impacted against the bare floor. The Boss frowned and pulled his crossbow up aiming for Jacob as he triggered War Cry quickly followed by Hemorrhage causing all the Duergar to concentrate on Jacob as Thelgrum and Rory arrived. Jacob quickly fired off a quick Analyze on the Boss.

Name: Lord Malfik Oondergrime (Unique)

Level: 42 (Boss)

Health: 190,000/190,000

Abilities: Explosive Shot, Rapid Fire, Shrapnel Grenade, Unknown

Jacob nearly cursed as he saw the Oondergrime toss a grenade in the ongoing melee. It exploded quickly causing Jacob to grunt in pain as metal pinged off his armor or penetrated it.

De-Buff Flash Blindness: Accuracy is decreased by 50% (Duration 30 Seconds)

Jacob tried to blink the spots and doubles away but it was no use so he did his best to keep the Duergar Soldiers from skewering him as he recovered. Jacob triggered Battle Stomp as he disengaged and it bought them some time to recover. Suddenly 6 ghostly Orc Warriors slammed into the packed ranks of the Duergar as Snaggletooth used Spirits of the Ancestors and a short burly Treant shortly joined them as Mug used Wrath of the Ancients.

Jacob glanced at the dais and saw June and her spider engaging the Priest while Chalxae had targeted the Pyromancer who was trying to get away long enough to conjure a spell but the Assassin wasn't giving him any space. Jacob looked back at Thelgrum and he nodded as Jacob moved off to engage the Pyromancer.

As soon as he was in range he triggered Piercing Lunge followed by Reaver Attack which brought the spellcasters health down to the midway point. Jacob smiled as he continued his assault but he felt a large heat bloom behind him and the screams of burning Duergar as one of his War Party unleashed something nasty on their ranks.

Suddenly Jacob screamed as the boss used Rapid Fire or some other similar ability causing a hail of Crossbow Bolts slammed into him. Jacob broke away from the Pyromancer and raised his shield between him and the boss who was smirking at him as he placed the Crossbow on his throne and drew his twin short-swords. Jacob snarled and downed a Medium Healing Potion as he triggered his last 48-hour ability, Summon Eternal Guard.

A green portal opened nearby and disgorged 6 Level 45 Wood-Nymphs, armed and armored with bows and short swords. Two immediately moved to engage the Duergar Soldiers while the last 4 targeted Lord Malfik Oondergrime. A hail of poison-tipped arrows slammed into him as they went to work as Chalxae finished off the Pyromancer.

Chalxae started to move toward the Boss but Jacob stopped her. "Help June finish the Priest," Jacob stated as he moved to join the fight against Oondergrime. Jacob triggered Shield Charge as he slammed into the back of the Duergar as he tried to corner one of the Wood-Nymphs. Their fire continued to pelt the Duergar as he slowly rose to his feet to meet Jacobs assault as Jacob fired off a quick analyze on the Duergar boss.

Name: Lord Malfik Oondergrime (Unique)

Level: 42 (Boss)

Health: 147,362/190,000 (Poison, Burn, Bleeding)

Abilities: Explosive Shot, Rapid Fire, Shrapnel Grenade, Unknown

A Magma and Bone Golems quickly joined in the fight against the boss as Jacob and the Wood-Nymphs continued to hound the Duergar. Combat Engineers are not the best front line troops and the battle did not go well for the Duergar. By the time Oondergrime went down, he looked like a pincushion as Jacob finally severed his head. The body kept swinging the blades...but the Duergar was dead.

Jacob dismissed the prompts as he activated the portal scroll to take them home. It had been a long day and they need their rest, they had another dungeon to clear tommorow.
