Borders shift, institutions crumble, but Empire stands eternal.  The world sits on the bones of the past, which themselves were built from older, stranger things.  Power is a seive which drains a person of all that makes them human, and the higher you climb the narrower the path, and the less choices you have. This is a cultivation novel, but with a strong focus on comtemporary western fantasy storytelling, worldbuilding, and character development.  There will be a complete lack of the genre tropes I find most annoying such as harems, presentation of clearly sociopathic characters as beacons of morality, and blatant power fantasies without meaningful struggle.
