Chapter 216: The New [Attributes]

Chapter 216: The New [Attributes]

Taubitha's eyes shot wide open as she immediately regained consciousness following her strange dream. She only had a moment to look around and confirm that she was indeed laying there on the cot beside Princess before tauman and fony both found themselves launched into a system dialogue prompt like no other, ultimately sending their consciousness both into a bit of a confounding flurry.

[You've been offered the class 'Dimensional Wizard.']

[Would you like to accept this class? You cannot undo this.]

Taubitha glanced over to Princess.

"Oh, like, wow. I totally didn't realize we'd get a prompt like this," said Taubitha, a little bit of nervousness in her voice as she looked over to her fony. "Um, Princess? What do you think?"

Princess huffed and batted her glittery eyelids. It was altogether unclear how she felt about this [class] offering.

"Yea, I know, I'm, like, totally not really sure what to think either, Princess."

[Please decide now. Would you like to accept this class?]

Taubitha was starting to feel incredibly put on the spot by her system. One moment, she'd just been in a strange dream, getting her nails done with an ethereal entity that had supposedly been around as long as space and time itself. Now, here she was being prompted to accept - or, indeed, to deny - a [class]. Sure, the entity had alluded to needing to decide on the [class] soon after she awoke, but this felt so sudden. Still, at the same time, she'd quite liked the ability to control dimensions through that dimensional rift the entity created... And yet, Taubitha felt a pause. She felt like it wasn't fair to Princess if they both got launched into this [class] without her even having the most base understanding of what it was that it ultimately did to them, their systems, and their power potential. Of course, there was a large part of Taubitha that felt like Princess would, if anything, be glad about some of these changes. After all, if Princess really was the Harbinger of Doom she truly seemed to be, then this would indeed be a great boon to her doom-ocity, as it were. If only there was some way for Taubitha's system to do all the explaining for her...

[Please decide.]

Taubitha sighed. Her system never had done a lot of explaining. She wondered if everyone's system was always as cryptic as hers somewhat seemed to be. Almost like it didn't want to communicate with her, in a way. Which was funny, as Taubitha thought about it, because in a way it seemed that her system itself was a bit of a reflection of her noncommunicative relationship with Princess. All the same, it was frustrating, because in the present moment the only remedy for Princess' ignorance of what it was that was going on vis a vis this [class] of [Dimensional Wizard] was for Taubitha to talk to Princess about it. And while Taubitha loved Princess, the prospect of talking to her about all that made her kind of uncomfortable - because, despite how Princess was overall somewhat beautiful, she was also somewhat terrifying, in her own glittery way.

"Like, Princess, I totally feel like I need to explain something to you. Like, so, I totally had this mega weird dream. Well, it wasn't mega weird at first, at first it was just your normal, garden variety dream - in fact I think there might have even originally been, like, a garden there or something - but then this, this like thing totally showed up, this, this mega weird entity from I don't know where. They just kind of stepped out of this, like, this rift in reality itself. It looked kind of like they unzipped reality, or like, whatever. Like, regardless, they like, unzipped reality and stepped out, and then they talked to me entirely in system messages."

Princess whinnied with a tone that emphasized what many could interpret to be a hint of slight confusion - all that said, it was just a hint. Princess' communication style was very much up to interpretation, as it were.

"Like, okay, it was pretty strange. But, like, once I got over that, they explained to me that, like, if we ever wanna succeed in, like, totally destroying Kahli and all that jazz, then we like, totally need to level the fuck up in a mega way. That is to like, totally say that just being a higher level than Kahli isn't gonna let us beat her because she totally has a [class] now and she's, like, totally mega overpowered. Apparently."

Princess let loose a disgruntled huff.

[Please decide.]

"But, like, Princess, if we totally pick this [class] up and add it to our system, then we'll be like, totally mega powerful, too! And then we'll, like, be able to defeat Kahli. I just know it, Princess. And like, plus, we totally don't know if we'll get the option to choose a [class] ever again. Aren't they, like, mega rare? And this is a totally powerful [class]. I saw in my dream with the entity how you can create dimensional rifts with it when you're, like, totally a higher level than we are! And we'd never be able to make, like, rifts if we didn't take the [class]."

Princess huffed and blinked her sparkly eyes. It seemed that this was ultimately the most input the Taubitha was going to receive from her [paired] companion on this situation. With that, Taubitha decided enough was enough. She was accepting this [class], like it or not.

[Level up]

Taubitha was quite happy to level up. She hoped that Princess was, too - after all, it was thanks to her weird dream with the entity that they were even getting the opportunity.

[Congratulations, you've reached level 30]

Taubitha could almost squeal with joy on seeing this. It had been a while since she'd leveled up, and she'd been anticipatingly eyeing her system for updates, as she'd felt like she'd been on the cusp of level 30 for a good bit now. And of course, Princess had already leveled up to 30 a while ago, so it was nice for Taubitha to finally feel like she was somewhat on the level as it were.

[Would you like to spend your 10 attribute points?]

Ten [attribute] points? Now that seemed almost excessive, especially considering Taubitha felt she'd only just leveled up some of her [attributes]. Then, she saw her character sheet, and everything made sense.

[Attributes]

[INT: 6]

[STM: 18]

[CHAR: 11]

[DEX: 11]

[STR: 20]

[REA: 1 (new)]

[DIM: 1 (new)]

[SEN: 1 (new)]

Wait, no it didn't. She had new [attributes]? That was... bizarre at the least. Taubitha didn't feel prepared for this! Had the entity mentioned that she'd be getting new [attributes] when she accepted the [class]? It had to have mentioned that. Right?

Taubitha couldn't rightly remember. It was all starting to blur together, much like any other dream. This almost made Taubitha wonder if she ought to spend some [attribute] points on her [INT]. However, at the same time, it was probably well worth it to instead just focus on the fact that she had new [attributes] to learn about, and indeed that she also had points to spend on them! Taubitha just hoped that her system wouldn't be as characteristically vague as it so often was regarding her new [attributes]... At least enough to tell her what the abbreviations were. That couldn't be too much to ask her system, could it?

[Reality (REA)]

[This attribute is your ability to perceive and alter that which we call reality itself.]

Wow. Taubitha really wished her system would give her some more detail, possibly some parameters around such a wild-sounding [attribute]. All the same, she was grateful for what knowledge she did now have. This, indeed, seemed a vital [attribute] to spend points on.

[Sensations (SEN)]

[This attribute is your ability to perceive other peoples' senses and perceptions, including the user experience of their systems.]

That, too, was a wow. Sensing peoples' system presence was one thing, but actually peering into their user experience was another thing entirely. Taubitha hadn't even known that was possible. And yet, if these were stock [attributes] available for people with the [class] of [Dimensional Wizard], then hell - clearly, it made a lot of sense how that strange entity had been able to drop by Taubitha's dream and talk to her. It even explained how it used system messages to talk to her - if it could warp reality and indeed warp her perception of her system, then it only made sense that the being had indeed used Taubitha's system to communicate with her. All the pieces were coming together. And yet, there was another [attribute] indeed that Taubitha still needed to learn of - even if her system messages were going to be decidedly sparse.

[Dimensionality (DIM)]

[This attribute is your ability to perceive and alter that which we call differing dimensions that make up the reality fabric. If it were to be compared to your REA attribute, think of it thusly - REA is a thread and a needle in the fabric of reality. DIM is a compendium of textiles. These two attributes, when used together, can have massive potential.]

A third wow, indeed, was in order. So it seemed that all of Taubitha's [attributes] worked together to give her what seemed to be an extraordinary potential for power. Indeed, she didn't rightly see a way in which whatever it was that Kahli could do could even kind of come close to the power she would now be capable of. Then again, who knew what Kahli's [class] was? It was unclear to Taubitha at the time, but maybe now that she had these [attributes], she'd be able to grasp that all the more sooner.

Only, now, Taubitha had to go and decide what it was to put all of her [attribute] points towards. She was harshly opposed to any sort of extreme point distribution - that is to say, she didn't want to dump all of her points into one [attribute], as they all seemed to piggyback off one another, but at the same time, she also didn't want to give each [attribute] the same balance of points, because that seemed altogether quite boring to her. With that, Taubitha really had to rack her head to decide - which of course, for a moment, made her wonder about increasing her [INT], although in the end she thought better of it. These points were clearly there to be spent on her new [attributes] first and foremost. And Taubitha wanted to get her points' worth.

Finally, something clicked, and she knew exactly what she was going to do.
