Synopsis
A MR. FREEZE ORIGIN STORY. Readers don't have to have read Batman: The Riddling beforehand, but it will help a little.
In the aftermath of the Riddler's assault on Gotham and near takeover of its major levers of power, the city is trying to heal. But just as winter approaches and the recovery efforts begin, a series of grizzly killings shocks Gotham's citizens. To Batman, it becomes clear this is a terrifying new enemy. A man seeking vengeance, entirely fueled by rage...a man who is cold-blooded in more ways than one. They've come to know him as Mr. Freeze.
Dr. Victor Friese was once a well respected scientist, but powerful corporate leaders and politicians gathered against him when his research uncovered something they would like to keep hidden. Fueled by revenge for what they did to his wife, this intelligent, brutal new enemy will test Batman and James Gordon in ways they never imagined.
This story involves science-y descriptions of diseases and how they spread--think Michael Crichton's Andromeda Strain and the film Contagion meets The Dark Knight. This series is a pseudo-continuation of the Nolan-verse of the Batman mythology, so you will see references to what happened in the first two films of that trilogy, but mostly this stands on its own. Expect both action scenes and detective work.
