Synopsis
!Currently on Hiatus until November (Sorry, big October project taking up all my time). Will return in full-force then, if not sooner.!
Our heroes, reunited childhood friends displaced following a great tragedy, must come together, grow stronger, and confront the forces that took everything from them. They begin as novices, inexperienced amateurs to their chosen crafts, but over time, side-by-side, they will develop the skills necessary to claim their vengeance -- or die trying.
Back to Basic is a narrative "Kinda-Play" campaign using the D&D Basic (red box/Elmore edition) system. It features an original over-arching storyline as the characters adventure through lesser-known Basic System modules originally released by TSR (beginning with B5 : Horror on the Hill). This work fully complies with Wizards of the Coast's Fan Content Policy (https://company.wizards.com/en/legal/fancontentpolicy)
Note 1 : This is NOT a stat-transparent campaign in the sense of standard LitRPG. The game aspects of the adventure are kept out of the story to create a more fluid narrative. All calculations (combat, decision-making, etc) occur off-camera.
Note 2 : Calculations (non-superfluous character decisions, combat resolution) are made through dice rolls affected by traditional DnD player, monster, and DM statistics, often simplified (particularly in combat) and an additional set of variable, affective statistics. Some of these (most notably each character's "Amour Class") are determined by Patron polling (see link in my profile Bio). In short, the more popular a character is among Patrons, the less likely a mortal wound will truly prove fatal -- BUT : other factors, such as plot ascension (how close the party is to the apex of a module) and mortality freshness (how much time has passed since a character death) also alter this calculation.
In short : Any character can die at any time, but Patrons can decide the size of each one's life preserver.
Note 3 : I reserve the right to alter any encounter, module details, or Dnd rule for the sake of telling a better story and to completely render myself a hypocrite on any and all previously stated parameters. The magic system and equipment variety, in particular, are especially lackluster in Basic, so I can guarantee that I will be drawing from later modules (and my own creations) on those score.
After all, the story is most important above all else.
Of course, absolutely NONE of this needs to be worried or cared about to enjoy the story. So feel free to just ignore everything else in this synopsis, and come along for the ride. It'll be a wild one; promise.
Current publication schedule : Monday and Friday (to be increased with sufficient interest/support).
If interested in supporting (and protecting your favorite character!) feel free to visit the Patreon link in my profile Bio to take part in all of the decision-making polls as well as early access to forthcoming chapters (Patreon is currently 2+ chapters ahead!).
Feel free to send any questions through Royal Road or Twitter.
Enjoy!
