Synopsis
Since the end of World War II, most people remain unaware that the peace they enjoy is the result of a delicate balance in nuclear supremacy among the world's superpowers.
This balance created a unique situation during the subsequent Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, giving rise to a semi-global stability known as the "Long Peace." While minor conflicts often surfaced, none escalated to a massive scale. This situation persisted until the fall of the Soviet Union, marking the beginning of a "New Peace" era—an outcome no one could have foreseen.
Thirty-four years have passed, and human technology has advanced at an unprecedented pace compared to previous eras. Almost every aspect of life has been mechanized, and the digitalization of information has spread globally. Devices like FDVR, AI, and superphones are no longer novelties. Even the development of multifunctional robots akin to those in sci-fi novels has begun.
Socially, humanity's views on violence have shifted significantly. The majority condemn war and other forms of violence that violate human rights, remaining optimistic about peace in the future.
However, the foundation of this peace remains unchanged. And when a force more impactful than nuclear weapons emerges, humanity will come to realize that their time of play on this world has finally run out.
