Synopsis

What a Lucky Gamer! Prologue Imagine a gamer who accidentally and instantaneously wins more wealth than two years of accumulated wealth from every other gamer than himself. Michael, a 21 year-old student studying at Waseda University, began playing VRMMORPG Arcarus Online two years after its release. Arcarus Online, containing all fantasy gaming aspects imaginable (holy knights, daring quests, realistic NPCs, and even unicorns), reached over 300 million players worldwide. Michael, having minimal contact with video games prior to Arcarus Online, finds himself lost inside the game… even during the tutorial! He randomly picked the human class and began walking around his beginner town with a map of a different town, attempting to find a tour guide. He kept walking and walking, past NPC shops, the border of the town, many trees, until he tripped on a twig and began rolling down a very steep, grassy hill. He kept rolling and rolling, past many shrubs, furry rabbits, howling wolves, black bears, until he fell into a deep mountain crevice and began falling down. He kept falling and falling, past some “crevice” goats, glowing snakes, illuminated plants and spiders, perhaps some wyverns, until his beginner tunic somehow got caught on a branch 3 meters before impact. He fell off the branch and walked though the nearest corridor, towards a glowing, azure light… and then stopped walking. He saw a magnificent beast with two giant, scaly wings that spanned larger than its body, a figure almost as tall as the cave itself, and breathed out fire from its mouth. Terrified, Michael wanted to escape, but was lost again. He dashed and sprinted along the outer edge of the cave, waving his hands in the air and screaming at the top of his lungs while the dragon continued blowing fire. He hit his head against the cave wall, followed by a thump with his body, and lay on the floor, unable to move. He heard a large echo, followed by many, many sharp stones and azure-colored crystals falling from the cave ceiling. After waking up, Michael looked around him, observing his biggest nightmare: the dragon. He glared at the dragon and saw a red bar that read 1/1000000 HP. He began running around again when the dragon began to blow shorter, smaller breaths of fire. He tripped on the dragon’s tail, and his head smashed on the floor. “1 damage inflicted.” The dragon died.
