Every mage is first taught that breaking the rules of the Lex Arcanis is unsafe and must be avoided at all cost. When newly-graduated mage Chell meets farmer Joshua in a shared plight, she decides that the only course of action is to teach him magic, despite knowing that Joshua does not have the personality desired in finding a mage apprentice. This is the story of Joshua, an errant mage whose disregard of the Lex Arcanis leads to high risk and - potentially - higher reward. His bad luck may drive him into many a dire situation, but a fresh perspective can be the difference between fading into obscurity, or saving the world from a never-ending war.
